Pirates and Haunted Mansion

I was thinking about this today, if Pirates is a success at the movies, which I think it will be, and the Haunted Mansion is a success will Disney alter the rides to reflect their movie counterparts? Has anyone heard anything like this, if their are rumors of this happening? I for one would be against changing the rides to be more adaptive of the movies, they are classics.

Eh, anything you've heard about this is false. Generally, the movies are made to reflect the attractions, not the other way around. Of course, there will be plenty of aspects of the movie that don't, with having to create a 2 hour long story with characters. Expect these two attractions to be unaffected by the films.:)

I hadn't read anything except a small interview with Jennifer Tilly who said if the movie is a hit they will use her likeness in the crystal ball. I hadn't heard anything about Pirates, I was just making sure that this wouldn't happen.

The way I understand it, the movies are based on the rides, so little would be different from the ride aspect. Eddie Murphy is merely in a situation where he visits the Mansion, much like guests at the park do, so it would be silly and weird to add him or any elements pertaining to him. Now... if a few new special effect ghosts are presented in a new or different way, then maybe some alterations could be made to accommidate (but I doubt much of this is happening). With the Pirates, the Movie is based heavier on DL's version telling the tale of the cursed treasure and the pirates who died all those years ago. Again, not much need to change the ride... I guess you could add Depp and Bloom, but why? To have stars in your ride... it's not even necessary. Pirates stays packed at DL and there is always people loading at WDW. Again, maybe some new scenes or current Pirate alterations could be interesting, but to tailor the rides to the films does not seem necessary when the opposite is happening.

There are currently no plans for ride/movie companionship. But there is a lot of talk, such as adding characters from the movies in (e.i. Johhny Depp pirate or Eddie Murphy ghost) though they will be hidden.:xmas:

A little off topic but has anyone seen a preview for the new Haunted Mansion movie? I see 3 a day for Pirates of the Carribean but haven't seen a single one for HM. What's it about?

One thing Disney is very good at is cross-promoting its brands and divisions. (Okay - the ABC network may be the exception)

Although the first ride-related movie was a dismal box office failure (although I'm sure they broke even in DVD sales) I think POTC and HM will probably do well.

I'm looking forward to Pirates of the Caribbean! On a side note - anyone who has yet to see Finding Nemo...GO! It's one of the best Pixar/Disney movies yet. Actually - I can't think of any better. It's on track to be the most profitable movie so far this year - and with good reason. Wait till the DVD comes out!

Oh yeah

I don't think HM is done filming either. About two weeks ago The HM crew was here in Georgia filiming in Savannah "plenty of spooky grave yards and spanish moss" I wanted to go,they wanted background, but my mom wouldn't make the drive "it is about 5 hours :)

Take care,

"countdown to renovation"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Countdown To Extinction renovated with the release of the film Dinosaur to:

1) Change the name of the attraction
2) Change the exterior of the attraction by adding a large likeness of the film's lead character
3) Add the lead dinosaur as one of the dinosaurs in the ride
4) Slightly adjust the theme of the ride (the dinosaur helps save you so that you can safely escape prior to meteor impact)

?

If all of the above is true, then it goes against the above opinions that Disney would never spend money to alter an attraction in order to keep up with the release of a (similar-themed) movie.

Ok I finally found the article .. check this out ...

http://www.comingsoon.net/cgi-bin/archive/fullnews.cgi?newsid1046696570,11788,

If the link doesn't work go to www.comingsoon.net and search for Haunted Mansion through the old news but if you don't want to go through that trouble ...

Here's the big quote from Jennifer Tilly ...
"I'm Eddie Murphy's sidekick in the movie," she adds. "He carries my head around, and I get bossy with him. I have lots of hair, I'm a smart ______, and I'm very cryptic. I know all, I see all... If the movie's really successful, Disney's gonna revamp the ride and I'll be the head in the ball at the beginning of it! They're gonna totally update it."

I knew I heard it somewhere. What is everyone's thoughts on this? Mine are certainly negative. I hope this isn't true or even if this is the case I hope the movie bombs.

I for one think that POC will beat out Hulk. Its one of the most anticipated films of the summer. The reveiws I read so far were all positive, and it will be a great movie. I already heard there is a hidden Mickey, and some in-jokes in the film. I know every peer I talk to down here all wants to see it real bad. You never know, There is a possibility that this *could* beat out FN in box-office sales......POC is gonna rawk

The main difference here is that these movies are based on the rides that have been established as popular classics for many many years. Tarzan's Treehouse, the possible addition of Stitch in Alien Encounter, and others all proove that movies generally influence attraction make-overs or replacements. However, this time we have a movie that embellishes on all that makes these particular attractions so great in the first place, so why change. As I said previously, i could see enhancements and additions of minor effects, but nothing majorlt ride altering just to suit the movies.

Yep, #s 1 and 2 in fact happened to tie-in the attraction to the movie. The actual backstory is that the ride was developed knowing that Disney was making "Dinosaur". What's interesting is that I'm pretty sure the movie at one time had a working title of Countdown to Extinction. Supposedly the name of the movie changed to make it less "death" oriented. As such, the name of the attraction changed also. In addition, the name change coincided with the reduction of the height requirement with a modification in the ride system so more "younger guests" could ride. Aladar was added outside in place of an iron-looking Triceratops that I felt fit with the theme of the building better. The name change was to help better identify the ride among Disney guests (especially younger ones).

I don't think #s 3and 4 happened. The iguanadon that looks like Aladar inside the ride was there when it was CTX. Also, the story never changed. The iguanadon has always been the "key" to unlocking the mysteries of dinosaurs, according to Dr. Grant in the preshow. It was the same during CTX.

Thus, the ride was developed as a tie-in with the movie. Its just that the ride was built and finished before the movie was released. You do bring up a good point though that Disney did in fact change the name and the outside to better reflect the movie upon its release, so its possible minor changes could be made to Pirates or HM. For instance, I think a neat minor change to Pirates would be to name the ship at the front of the ride "The Black Pearl", unless it already is  Don't forget there are a lot of references in the movie that tie it to the attraction already. Like the dog with the key or the pirates singing together holding their "drinks", etc.

Thanks, a fellow GnFnR fan I see?

By the way, the Iguanadon saving you at the end of the ride was always part of the attraction, I think it's just a coincidence that the Aladon or w/e in Dinosaur resembles the iguanadon in CTX.

Yes, huge fan! Favorite band. Always wished they'd get back together but alas .. I was always a bigger Slash fan than Axl, but I digress. Things have certainly changed over the years, seeing as how I recently saw a cameo of Slash on Trading Spaces when they were doing Teddy Zigzag's house (lol). Anyway, enough of that

I'm looking forward to the PoTC movie! The look of it sort of reminds me of The Count of Monte Cristo, which was good as well

Personally I believe that there is no coincidence in the Disney World (no pun intended), expecially when it all boils down to $$$. Dinosaur was in production while this ride was being designed and built so they tied the attraction to the film before it was even released, but they just gave the ride a different name. They could have picked from any number of Dinos to "save" the rover, they picked an Iguanadon because he would be a featured dino in the movie. They chose other dinos to be featured in the ride because they were also shown in the movie.
