Pirate Island at WDW too?

Yeah I have heard about this at DL. I don't think something like this would come to MK anytime soon though. At DL TSI is directly infront of POTC, where as in MK they aren't really connected by any sight lines. But you never know. If it goes over really well at DL we could possibly get a scaled down version of some of their enhancements.

Yea I like pirates as much as the next guy but lets not go crazy. I could think of better uses for this than pirates. It would be way oversaturation for me.

There is also the rumor that Discovery Island would be turned into Pirate Island at WDW. Could the DL be a test run for somehting MUCH bigger at WDW?

The thing with Pirates Island at Disneyland is essentially based on location, considering PotC is on the other side of the river. That and, to use words that might not be best to use on a Disney board, Frontierland has essentially become New Orleans Square's .
Until they put Pooh in Critter Country, that whole area practically was an extension of New Orleans Square considering it goes more into the backwoods areas of Louisiana with the Brer animals and I suppose the Country Bears as well. Frontierland itself has also had elements going along more with the whole Southern feel of Frontierland with the Mark Twain and Tom Sawyer Island. Essentially, the true west feeling of Frontierland essentially extends to Big Thunder Mountain and Ranch as well as the Golden Horseshoe and areas surrounding there. Also Fort Wilderness.
Magic Kingdom on the other hand puts Pirates in Adventureland and firmly places it in a Caribbean setting. They'd really have to screw with Frontierland if they wanted to do it, considering the whole trek in time and space the Frontierland/Liberty Square area is, going from the original 13 colonies to the old west (with a brief detour to the south for Splash Mountain).

Maybe Pecos Bills gets flipped from Frontierland to Adventureland? Splash could be an Adventure attraction as much as a Frontier attraction. Don't flame me, just brainstorming -- and have no basis in fact.

Let's leave this one at Disneyland. Sometimes it's okay to have things at one resort that aren't at the other. Don't let Jay Rasulo hear that though...

Treasure Island II, on the site of the former Treasure Island I aka Discovery Island.

It would certainly fill the "Discovery Cove" gourmet exclusive mini-theme park niche.

Um... No. That's not it at all.

This was originally posted at Micechat by MasterGracey:

I got an e-mail from a CM friend regarding the Burning Settler's Cabin on Tom Sawyer Island sharing that it was going to indeed make a comeback. I relayed that message in the Burn that cabin again thread. After that, my CM friend passed on some interesting information regarding the upcoming additions to the new Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island.

With their permission I'm sharing it here. Enjoy.

We have all actually been surprised with most of what has been happening to the island (aside from the mast and zipline in the front). They are putting a big ship hull by the fort. The idea is that they are trying to make it look like a giant ship somehow wrecked all over the island. Most of us agree that, with the wreckage spread out the way it is, it seems more like Captain Hook's ship ran out of fairy dust and landed all over the island.

They are also working on a sunken treasure scene in smuggler's cove (with a skeleton attached to the treasure). The way it works is you pull a rope and it pulls the treasure up, then it pulls itself back down, then you pull it up, then it pulls itself back down again, then on the third try, you will be able to get the chest enough out of the water to see a skeleton hanging on it, at which point it'll pull itself back down.

They also plan on reopening the fort and are, in fact, adding a wheelchair lift for it. They want to open it up so that there will be an extra bathroom on the island and should have a fruit cart there.

The cave has been widened to make it wheelchair accessible and will now feature a skeleton that pops up in the middle of it (where the bottomless pit used to be). They have already ran the airlines for the skeleton. They claim that they will be adding an extra room to the cave. It should be another treasure scene. They say that they have been experimenting with an effect that should make it look like your hand is turning into a skeleton when you reach for a certain treasure. They said that they were originally going to try and use that effect in POTC, but did not perfect it in time for the reopening.

The only problem is that there are only 29 CMs left that have raft knowlege, that's including the night drivers, fantasmic shuttle drivers, and leads. We will be required to run 2 CMs per raft (we'll be using 3 rafts per day), plus a dock assist CM and at least 3 positions on the island (one for each wheelchair lift that they are adding).

Many thanks to the CM who went out of their way to share this info, the news is very exciting!

Not only that but a pirates stunt show and some amazing technology in the caves. Also, when you shoot the canons, chimneys will fall over. From what it sounds like, it's not some cheap overlay.

It's better than having no one go over there and have it rot away...
I'm very excited for it!
