Pin Value Question

Does anyone know of a book or a site that has the collectable value of the disney pins?

I was just wondering because I found a "Beast" pin that I've had for years. I actually got it around the time beauty and the Beast came out and I've never seen it on the pin racks since this pin trading thing has become a phenomenon. It's styled just like all the trading character pins that are out now (the character is outlined with gold instead of black lines, gold back etc.)

they sell a Disney Pin guide at the various resorts and in the parks. I don't have the name of the book right now because my daughter took it to school with her today. But its about 8 X 10 in size and I think it costs about $25. when the kids get home I can post the official title of the book..unless someone hear beats me to it.

Tomart makes a catalog that shows the value of most of the pins that have produced. The book carries a high price tag though (29.95).

For some reason it doens't come up as a clickable URL. You have to copy and paste that...but it will take you to the official place for the book.

The way I look at pin worth is the same way I looked at Beanie Babies' worth. (along with baseball cards and other sports). The book says a price that it is "worth", but you will never see that money unless you sell it lol. I just collect because I like something, not because of its worth.

That Tomart book is the one I was thinking of. And yep its $29.95 not $25~ You can tell it was something Grandma bought them not mom or dad ;)

Which one?

Out of curiosity, which Beast pin?

http://www.pinpics.com is a great resource for traders or just for general pin information if you want to find out more about it.

They have a search option where you can type in "beast" or a description of the pin and it will bring up pictures of the related pins and information about them.

Just like other collectables (from baseball cards and comic books to Longerberger baskets) the "value" is entirely subjective. Since there is no offical body for purchasing them (Disney doesn't buy them back) they really are only worth whatever the person who owns them wants to sell them for, and more importantly what a buyer will pay you.

That's why expensive printed books (which are going to be off anyway almost instantly after being published) aren't really going to be a huge help. In essence, the pins are not worth more than the metal you could melt them down to (if that's even possible?).

As DuckyLove said, the only place to get a real idea of the current MARKET value of your pins is eBay.

Good luck!

Pins are worth what people are willing to pay for them. Seriously. I've seen some pins that I think are weak that people will shell out upwards of a hundred dollars for and others which are rare or limited in quantity sell for a few bucks.

What character or attraction it features, the number that were released, the nature of the release (was it a surprise pin? a one day only pin? etc.), the location of the release, the number of people who collect that theme, the weather the day it's released, the price of corn that day - seriously, it's a million things. And a pin that people might go mad for one week and spend hundreds of dollars to obtain might end up being a $10 item a few weeks later.

If you like it, it's worth something. If you don't, it's not. Don't worry about "selling price" - that route will just make ya nuts.
