Pin Trading On Its Last Leg?

I have never purchased any pins for the purpose of trading at all. I did it and my father before me for the collecting of the pins. He has thousands of pins in books, cases, etc. that some have probably never seen the light of day after they went into the bag after purchasing.

He did it when it began and has, as I said, thousands f them that were available up until about 2003 or so when he was unable to visit Disney anymore.

I still wear a decent collection from time-to-time in the parks. More so to see if CM's have some similar to mine & to see how long they have been working there. The older pins were better quality, especially the backs with the actual metal pins that clip into place. Not the little rubber deals they have now.

Snapped a few of my favourites the other day when we were headed to Animal on one lanyard I wear more than others. I've always liked the holiday pins as well as the pins that have movement to them. Or LED's on them.

Pin Traders are their own worst enemy. The money in it for Disney is that you would buy their pin trading sets and then trade with Cast Members for other pins. It benefitted Disney to make mystery pins for Cast Members to keep you buying and trading. Problem is that the majority of guests just buy fake pins off eBay and trade those to Cast Members, cutting Disney out of any profit.

The pins are a great collectible, but I think the whole trading thing should just leave the parks and stick to fan forums.
