Pin Lanyards in carry on question

My mom and I are taking a trip to the World next month and I am a little indecisive on where I should put my pins for the flight down. I have three lanyards worth of traders totaling about 50 pins and I'm not sure if I should put them all in my carry on or put only one in my carry on and the rest in my luggage? Could you please give me your opinions.

We put our pins in our carry on luggage and haven't had any problems at the airport. We keep most of our pins in sandwich bags in our backpacks because we don't like the lanyards around the neck since I always have my camera with me. One bag marked 'TRADE' the other marked 'KEEPER'. Before we leave the room we each put about 6 pins in our pockets so it they are easy to get to, left pocket trader, right pocket keepers. My nephew traded for a pin he had been looking for all week and it had fallen off by the end of the day, not more lanyards for keepers.

We carried a TON of pins in our carry on luggage (was able to spread out between 2 adults and 1 child), but we also put a bit in checked luggage. We didn't have any issues.

I've had security people question them twice, but someone who knew more always let me through with them. I have never had trouble at the Orlando airport.

I refuse to check the pins, but I've invested a lot of time and money on my pins.

I used to take my pins with me on every trip in my luggage, but the UK security guys always broke into it, so we haven't taken them for a while. It's ok because I'm not much of a trader, I really just buy and collect them.

The TSA is very noncommittal about telling you what you can or can't take on the plane. We tried to get an answer about diaper pins a few years ago, and we called and e-mailed TSA and everything. Completely useless... every answer ended with something like, "up to the discretion of the TSA agent at the airport." There is a 99% chance you are fine, but you could get a jerk TSA agent.

I have never had an issue with them in my carry on. I usually take my pin bag out of my carry on and put it through the scanner separately. I was questioned once if they were disney pins and nothing else was said.
