Pin Code Question

The honest answer, from my experience and from what others have said, is that the sending of PINs is incredibly random. Some have said that if you are constantly out building trips (but not purchasing) or you order custom maps or the vacation planning DVDs etc., that it increases your chances of getting them. My personal opinion is that they send them to folks who have accounts and have done something like that but haven't booked a trip in awhile (or not at all). I say that because I've been doing all of that for years but also booking trips. I had a 2-year period where I got 2-3 PINs a year in the mail out of nowhere. The difference was that they came in my step-son's fiance's name. She lived with us and went with us on our trips but I had gone in to create a custom map for her one day. I used my account but had it sent to her name. It was just a month or so later that the first PIN arrived. Unfortunately that made things tough for actually using the PIN because it was all my info (even my e-mail address) but her name. The PINs suddenly stopped coming in late 2013 after I had spoken to Disney to have them correct the name they were coming to and everything was re-associated as being only my name, that books trips frequently, on my account. :D

That was an incredibly long way of saying there's no real way to know. HAH!

Yes! We have been booked since December and we got a pin code a few weeks ago. Mind you if was basically the same discount that just came out for the spring offer we booked through and wasn't a money saver at all, same price. Wish free dining was with it :(

the PINS aren't that random. as someone who goes to Disney quite often, and also works in the direct marketing space...the codes are directly related to Disney's calculated likelihood of the PIN generating a positive action (in this case booking a trip). It's tied completely to the amount of revenue Disney feels they can generate from it. While it may seem random in nature, it's an extremely complex and highly targeted behind the scenes process. The best way to get (and continue to get regular PIN's)? Go to Disney often, and spend significant dollar amounts.

I still get pin codes regularly for my brother-in-law who went to Disney with us in 2010 (with no plans of ever going back) and like you, @ExtinctJenn, I am unable to use them.
why not? I used a pin that was sent to my mother with no issues for this past October. Got free dining at POFQ during a week that was excluded from the general public free dining promo.

I already had an existing reservation, called and told them that my mom (who hadnt been in 14 years) got a pin and I wanted to know if we could use it even though she wasn't going...
They just asked my to confirm her name, pin code, & address then the CM transferred the pin code to my name then was able to apply it to our existing reservation.
And my mother and I have completely different last names and addresses...

Someone else on these boards read about me being able to use my mother's pin and called to see if they could use their cousin's or friend's? pin and were able to as well.

You can also book the pin codes online.

I have been told by cast members that my brother in law has to be part of the traveling party in order to use the pin code. Also, in order to access the offer online I must use his address and was not able to use my address.

But if you and others have had success with a pin code transfer I will try again

Definitely try again... Even after they transferred the pin code to me, I still had to use my mom's name & address to pull up the pin code online & when changed hotels at one point, I had to give her information to pull up the pin over the phone after as well.

Online, once I pulled up the pin code offer , it would allow me to book without her information and use my address as the ship to/bill to for everything.

I do that and have never received a pin. :(

I used to get pins very often, and now I rarely get them. I haven't done anything different, except move about a half hour from my old house. I went from the city to the suburbs. I doubt that has anything to do with it, but that's the only change I made. I've consistently booked trips every year, and received pins after booking. Just not in the last few years. I usually end up using the Visa or public offers when they are released.

Still, fingers crossed for a pin code for this Fall trip!

Disney does offer pin code after you have already made a reservation. I have gotten these codes at different times of year. This year, I was surprised to get one not long after I had booked the Early 2016 offer. I was getting I believe 15% off a value standard room at Pop Century. Not a bad deal. Then I got a pin code in the mail for past visitors. I called in and gave my "unique pin code" and was only given $40.80 additional off my reservation. I was a little let down. Not sure if I should just be happy or question it??? I guess the Early 2016 was a good enough deal, so they couldn't do more. The person I spoke with mentioned something about the max discount given on value resorts is 20%, but I don't think I am getting that?? Anyone else got the new pin code/pixie dust offer in the mail? I received mine Oct. 2015. I will travel in March 2016. I am procrastinating on my flight. Might be a big mistake. I keep checking SWV and the flights included in the package just don't seem like a deal. They are knocking some off the package price, depending on how much you are spending. It is pretty easy to figure out how much the package flight is, when you know how much your room and park tickets cost.

I have been going to Disney for years and have never received a PIN. However, I just went on 2 big trips this year (January & Sept/Oct), and I just received my first PIN a couple days after I got home from my trip (a couple weeks ago).
