This will be our first cruise and anytime we do a Disney Trip I am always an investor on pictures as our souvenirs. The little research I have read shows the pictures a little pricey. On average how many pictures can be expected to be taken? Is there a picture package worth the cost? Any tips and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

One Little Spark...

The service ( at least on the Fantasy ) is called Shutters. And it IS expensive. On my 7 day cruise, at the end of the trip, I checked out my portfolio and there were only five pictures in it. One was from when we met Stitch, three were from when we boarded, and one was from dinner. I passed.

I didn't notice Photopass photographers that often...generally at the meet and greets in the grand foyer...

The nice thing is, you can pick or choose your package at any time during the trip. So, there is no pressure to buy before the end of the cruise, and you have the ability both during the cruise and right before it's over to check out your folio (and physical pictures) to see if there are any you want.

Neat service...but I gave it a pass...

On our 14 day cruise we spent over $400.00 on pictures, we purchased the package with the CD of all our pictures. That was completely worth it for us because there were so many we liked after 14 days.

Its Shutters on all theDisney ships. Its a contractor, not Disney operated. The photographers are out for a lot of the meets, set up in 4 or 5 spots prior to dinner, and out on Castaway Cay. There's sometimes photographers wandering randomly but I don't see them that much. Typically 8x10 pics run $20 each or you can purchase the full cd with all pics & copyright release for a larger amount depending on the length of cruise. We aren't sure but think 7-night cruise CDs are like $300 or $350. We are kinda "over" spending time on pics but we've done tons in the past. Now when we get to the end of a cruise we go look at our pics, pull what we can't leave behind, and do the math. If the sum of all the pics at $20 each is as much as the cd, we'll buy the whole cd. If not, we buy the individuals to take home and do high res scans. ;)
