Pics from the newest MerfCam (and Epcot too!)

One thing that's buggin me about this new cam..

My old one i always kept in my cargo pocket. This new one is far too big for that. Now i have to use a neck strap or a bag.

I hate bags. I'm anti-bag-check just because i'm impatient. So, i tried the strap that came with it - which entirely too lon to get attached, and it felt horrible. I got a nicer one at Epcot and seems to work.. but i feel weird wearing a camera, have no idea how to protect that camera from the elements if i'm wearing it, and the strap gets a little cumbersome and hot sometimes.

Any suggestions?

Well...I'm going to have an interesting time of it with my new camera next weekend. I've been using a smallish digital cam, or my wife's 35mm point and shoot...until now. My camera definitly won't fit in a pocket - or much of anything short of a full camera bag or backpack, and it's heavy on top of that!

Does anyone know if they sell a camera strap at WDW that would be good enough to hold a VERY nice digital SLR? I'd love a Mickey strap, but want something really sturdy.

Wear the camera and put the bag in your pocket through the no-bags security line, then put the camera in the bag if the elements warrant.

Why security checks tiny camera bags is beyond me when people have much more storage space in some of their pants/shorts pockets.

Instead of a camera bag you can get a small hip-pack (or whatever those things are called) or a camera pouch with a belt clip.

Actually, the small bags could quite easily hold a pistol, or a small explosive device, and probably be less detectible. Not that I'm paranoid or anything...:lookaroun

Actually, I have family in law enforcement, including at homeland security (and no, I don't mean an airport screener!)

This is the strap I got at Epcot:

It's very sturdy. The neck part is soft and padded and very adjustable. That connects leather ends that are connected to woven nylon - which goes to a double-back buckle dealio which ends in a metal triangle which doubles over/around itself.

It took me like 15mins to get it on my camera - i'm not worried about it coming off.

The part that is against your neck is like velvet stuff. Very comfortable - just a lil warm, but not even noticeable after the first 30mins.

New Camera is a Kodak easyshare Z812 IS (The "IS" means Image Stabilization, but I can't tell any difference).

I'm more impressed with that camera's ability to record 720p video at 30fps.

However Image Stablization in a nutshell. On that camera, it should take out camera shake during longer, nighttime exposures (1/30, 1/10, 1/8th) and make them sharper without using a tripod.

The "camera experts" at Best Buy don't know what they're talking about. Yes, higher ISO's help when hand holding night shots, but with a tripod, you're better off using lower ISO. The higher the ISO, the more grainy the pictures look.

There are no camera experts at Best Buy.

Unrelated - You can walk through No Bag line with a camera on your shoulder.

Regarding the new camera strap that Merf got for his camera-

A Tip:
It's a good idea to try carrying a new camera around for a while before going off to WDW with it.

I found, just by walking around the neighborhood with my new camera, that the strap that came with it was too thin and dug into my shoulders.
I replaced it with a padded version, similar to the one Merf got.

Tks.

I save just about every picture I've ever taken too. they take up about 20G of my harddrive so far... I'm going to start switching them to DVDs though. Worried though because when I transferred all of my pictures from my old desktop to my new laptop, I lost every single picture I took of my New York trip from last summer. about 300 pictures.....bleh....

Out of Curiosity Merf do you save all the pics you take? If so how much space are these pics taking up on your pc?
With hard drive prices these days storage is not much of an issue. You can get a 500gb hard drive and an external enclosure for under $150. Even at 8mp that is enough room for over 140,000 pictures.

See if you can get a picture like this with your new camera, Merf.
At one time you were trying to 'Save the FountainView'.
