Pic From EPCOT.

I was wondering if any of you that post here that are Cast Members at WDW, Specifically EPCOT, can tell me anything about the attached picture. I labeled it simply "DWBMAN", short for "Disney World Bird Man", and took it back in '96, near the Japan area of EPCOT. I know, it's NOT a great pic, but it's the only one I have, unfortunately. There were 3 of them total, two male and one female, with the two males seeming to "fight" over the female. I even got to give one of them (one of the males, I think? :veryconfu ) a drink from a water fountain!

They seemed to tell a story, without words, of the two males fighting over the female, and I had the impression that one of them was a bad/evil bird. The b/e one almost won, but the other one rallied, and prevailed in the end.

Anyway, I was wondering if one of you CMs can tell me anything about them. I'm GUESSING that they have something to do with Japan, since that is the area they were in, though I guess that doesn't necessarily MEAN they are from there. I'm ALSO guessing that they were acting out some sort of Japanese Fable, but I really have no idea.

ANY help/INFO will be GREATLY Appreciated. Does anyone else have pics of these "Birdmen"? Thanks in Advance for any Help.

Quite correct- I'd say they're just street performers with their own unique art form - take the infamous "aliens" in front of the FW fountain for example.

I've always called this art pre-Tapestry. Many, and I mean MANY forms of roaming parades and shows happened at Epcot's WorldShowcase, 2 from the top of my mind. I always though of them as testing the waters out for a possible parade or new entertainment medium there. Lo-and-behold we get more WS performances and Tapestry.

No, I'm NOT sure.

Are you sure that that is japan, it looks more like England.

The "Birdmen" were wandering around for a while, before their "Performance", so I MAY have actually taken the pic near the "England" area, but I'm pretty sure they had their Performance near the Japan area, because I remember it wasn't far from where they had the HUGE drums, and it was either before or after THAT performance.

With the drums I mean, whatever THEY are called. They stand on their sides, and are about 6 feet tall or so, with some smaller ones around 3 or 4 feet tall. Anyone have any INFO on THOSE? :)

I don't know if this will help any or not, but I was there the week of Memorial Day, in '96, the last week of May. Maybe that will help someone figure out what the Birdmen were there for, like maybe it was some seasonal thing?

Thats England - its the sign for the Rose And Crown public house.
I have photos from last year of a character looking very similar to the one in the photo which performed in the Future World area.

I think the drums are taiko drums. I have them as a sound on my digital keyboard. Real nice, booming. Plus, their name is Japan-esque. "TAIKO"
