Thanksgiving in the U.S. is always the 4th Thursday in November, so not actually linked to Christmas here, either. In any case, I agree with those who aren't ready for the Christmas season to start until after Turkey Day.

Edit: re-reading your post, I think you meant linked by time proximity, not a link in determining the date?

Correct.
On another note, Thanksgiving is not as big a deal up here as it is for our neighbours to the south.

It would be more magical if Christmas went up after Thanksgiving. It would also allow for Thanksgiving decorations.

Disney completely skips Thanksgiving decorations. :(
