Wow and just when I thought WDW couldn't sink any lower I watched the video to the indoor "queue". What a joke. This spits in the face of Walt Disney's core business philosophy of building attractions for everyone of all ages to enjoy not something to keep little kids occupied. If parents want to take kids to play around in a play area they can go to their local chuck e cheese or burger king. What a wasted opportunity. A shame.

McDonalds

I'd like to know what Mcdonald's and where exactly all you guys are going that has this level of theming and lighting? I am really jealous that the McDonalds in your town puts this much attention into their "kiddie" playgrounds. I see videos of kids having fun in here - and even some INTERACTING with their parent and I think - WOW Disney got it SO WRONG. I just don't know what they were thinking - listening to parent with small children who have silly complaints like how difficult it is to keep their kids entertained while standing in line. I just don't get their position when they don't use exterior sues with chains strung between stations like those better park like 6 flags. I mean - really - they got it so wrong to provide a cool environment for kids to play in - parents to catch a break in and people to feel like they had a different experience while waiting for a ride. They really should have listened to you guys on this site that have got it all figured out - they really missed the boat there. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Maybe next time!

Oh and by the way

Lets not forget that Walt died a long time ago - the company is publicly traded and has shifted, adapted and changed as enterprises must to remain viable in the current economy and society they function in. Business models and fundamentals are not set in stone or chiseled on walls - well they are in the halls of the complies that refused to change and are no longer with us.

DUMBO soft open soon???

Spoke to someone who works on Dumbo today and a soft opening for the new Dumbo and queue is coming soon. The "NEW" one that has been running will go down for awhile to fix an issue it is having. As for questions on the "pagers" there is a time window. When it goes off they have a certain amount of minutes to get over there. If they don't they go to the back of the line. The queue playground is only for the stand by line, not the fast pass line. Rumor has it that one dumbo will be fast pass and the other for stand by once they are both running together.

The Dumbo queue play area is restricted to those between the ages of 2 and 8. A castmember might even tell you to get out of the nets/slides.

Tom Sawyer's Island is better as adults can walk in the wilderness, in Dumbo you gotta bench in a semi-dark room.

Odd. Video showed adults playing.

And yes, TSI is better, as it should be. It is an attraction, not a line.

So I assume from this that you also believe they should close Space Mountain since not eveyrone in the family can ride it together?

It looks cute, definitely a respite from the heat. I just hope they did something to keep the noise level comfortable. Nothing worse than a big echo-y space filled with screaming children. Also, the pictures ruin the perspective of size. This tent is huge on the outside, so I'm going to assume it's reasonably large on the inside as well.

Based on the video, 2 things come to mind:

1. No longer will families rush to ride Dumbo. We will want to wait in a long line for it!

2. The response to, "Our ticket is ready, lets go ride Dumbo" is going to be "Mom, do I have to?"

Oh, and how many families will just go over to Dumbo to get in line to give the kids a chance to take a break, with no intention of going on the ride?

That's the issue that I think some people have with the play area as TDO misrepresented what this play area really is. From something that some people thought would be a next-gen queue, to showing videos of parents playing on things that they really aren't allowed to, and alternatively describing it as a place where parents can play with their kids, to describing it as a place where kids are the circus stars and parents sit in the bleachers with them.

If done well with interactive games and stuff for all ages, Dumbo's queue could have become part of the ride, with the spinner just being one part of the experience. It's a much smaller McDonald's type play area with decorations similar to what you'd see in a Disney store.

The tent, and the "No-See-Um" green painted structure behind it look HUGE, but I am guessing that some of this is a break room for castmembers, and storage space.

Great points, all true, IMHO.

I think they should have built a more expensive plussed Dumbo play area, PLUS a huge indoor area with interactive games for kids of all ages, and put it in as a stand alone attraction. The folks who want to ride the spinner will have to wade through the roar of kids going bezerks. A queue with interactive elements, which was air conditioned and quiet would have been best.

The one thing that I can say with 100% certainty is no matter what they built, no matter how elaborate, expensive, interactive, next gen, themed, old school, etc...several people on here would trash it. That's the reality of a site with 1000's of members, and these boards in particular tend to have a much more negative slant than any othe Disney discussion board. (The site, however, also has the most knowlegeable members of any site online, so despite a few trolls, and very few people who are negative 100% of the time and never see any postive ever, it's a great place to hang out.) :)

Im assuming you are referring to the same Walt Disney who built this inside Disneyland...

dude Walt built Disneyland with a shoestring budget and the second he had more money he immediately removed it and built something cool for everyone.

Why defend poor decisions by Disney? I'll never understand that logic

DH and I like it. Of course our final verdict must wait until we can experience it in person, but it's significantly better than the way things used to be.

The point is that this is nothing new. Things like this have existed in the parks since the days of walt. Just because something wasn't designed to appeal to you doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.

Wow. I don't get in here much, usually when we're about to open or just did open something. This thread took the cake. Have you ever noticed that it's always the same people who trash everything? And those people hardly ever praise anything? First, concept art is a "concept", things change as you build them. Second, a lot of people mentioned things in there mind, they dont' know where it came from, that aren't in the queue building. Third, take a trip through the queue before you bash it. It's not really for me, but I was impressed with the way it came out.

Not what I was expecting to be placed into the tent but I guess it's alright. I mean honestly, I'll probably go into the tent once to see what it's like and then never be in there again. It's better that it's geared towards the people who will actually use it than people like us.
