so if they are starting testing the BOG this week during CM previews, i wonder if they will continue that for the AP and DVC previews (i was lucky enough to get both). I love the idea of ordering and then sitting anywhere while the little "red blood cell" looking transponder will guide the servers to your table with your food. I wonder how many people will be walking out with those, though. then again, if they have GPS in them, they may have a warning on the bottom saying they will find it if you take it out of the restaurant.

That's exactly the system I was envisioning when I read somewhere that your order would be "magically delivered to your table".

As for the rose transponder, it it were me designing the system I'd put in some kind of alarm inside it that could detect when it gets to the far end of the Be Our Guest bridge and doesn't shut off until it's brought back inside the restaurant. (And if there's a CM greeter at the far end of the bridge, it could be part of their job to listen for transponder alarms and collect them from Guests)

I don't know what sort of protections the cell phones from Kim Possible/Agent P have in them, but it might be the same thing. (And those cell phones are probably more expansive)

But one thing to keep people "honest" is that it's essentially your meal ticket. You buy food, and it's the way you get your food. Who would pay for a meal and then walk out without getting it and only have a useless rose trinket to show for it?

I wonder if the NextGen wristbands will factor into this. The system could possibly be set up so that if you have a wristband it uses that, and if not it then issues you a rose.

Lastly, I can foresee a family sitting down at the table, and then Mom gets up and goes to the bathroom and inadvertently takes the rose along with her...

There is an article over at Epcot Explorer's Encyclopedia talking about some of the problems they are having with the resturant. According to the article the interior of the resturant went through numerous re-designs during constructed and ended up with a kitchen that was to small to handle the number of guests that the resturant could accomodate. Not sure if this is true or not but could be a big issue if it is.

I don’t think it has to do with the kitchen being too small (they have the largest kitchen on property), the problem is they are now the largest restaurant on property and the fact that all meals (for lunch) must be delivered to the guests tables by carts makes the process less efficient than say Cosmic’s or Pecos.

Not to mention the food is a little more complicated to make than regular fast-food that we see in other locations. But on the other hand once all the cast learn the table numbers and get more accustomed to the processes, the kinks should work themselves out. Plus I'm sure guests will find this process much more convenient and relaxing.

My only issue with the restaurant, for lunch, is that we still consider it a Quick service restaurant, when its really not. Its a hybrid between quick service and table service. The only other place i know like this is the restaurant at ESPN wide world of Sports. They definitely wanted to expand on this concept, but idk if putting it in such a fast paced lunch environment, that MK tends to have in their QSR, will work as well as in needs to.

Though i know management already foresees that issue and that is why they will be counting guests before they enter the restaurant and stopping the inflow of people if they can not keep up. Again this is all issues for lunch only, i don’t think dinner will have any issues.

They will continue to be testing the restaurant from now till they are officially open. If it will just be for dinner or lunch or both, i don’t know, but expect them to be open is some way every day now.

And just a little correction, they are RFID sensors in them not GPS. the tables can read the RFIDs and thats how the servers know where to go. I have not eaten at BOG for lunch yet so i have to ask, Do the servers that give you your food take the rose? If so i don’t foresee them being stolen as an issue.

Since it's all touch screen ordering, is there anyway in the system to customize your order? Like, if you don't want the mayo or whatever, can you modify it yourself or are you going to need to see a CM to put in the order for you?

the same types of people that will pay big money for old tickets.. maps.. and anything else they can get their hands on from the parks? :)

Ordering a $10 meal so they can steal a puck isn't that big of a deal to them...

This is amazing! I can't wait until my next Disney visit for this fantastic restaurant.
Are there any photos of the Seven Dwarves area yet?

Actually, when they explained it to us, we were told that it was indeed some type of GPS tracking system. Not sure which it is, though, as I'm not sure how much technical information is actually given to the CM's about this process. We had lunch there, and as far as the Rose, they took that before they put our food on the table, just as they did with everyone else sitting around us.

GPS is likely just being used like slang... it's legitimately a 'position location system' - but it's highly unlikely to be using the Global Positioning System considering that uses satellites that require a view of the sky.. something tough to do from inside metal buildings :) They are just saying GPS because it's something guests can relate to, rather than trying to be technically accurate.

^^^Exactly^^^ The cast spieling the tours do not work at BOG and haven’t had the most rigorous training for that position. But I’m just not a fan of Main Street Ops cast.

No these new GAC terminals and Cash registers are much smarter than before. Not only can you specify if you don’t want something in your order you also are able to order if you had an allergy without having to talk to a coordinator/manager/chef etc. They will have a little drop down menu of allergies, you check the one or ones you have and then a modified menu appears for you. Which is a pretty big thing to anyone thats worked F&B at Disney and knowing the long process that is an Allergy order.

These terminals will also tell you what you get if your on the meal plan. Ex. you put in he number in your party and it will say you have that # of entree, drinks and desserts to order. Which will both be helpful for the cashiers and guests who don't know the dining plan by heart.
