Photopass- Who is not a fan?

So I've read tons of reviews on why the PhotoPass and PhotoPass+ is so fantastic, but who out there doesn't really care for it or see the need to drop that extra cash?

DH and I are headed down on Thursday for a week-long, kid-free trip. That being said, we will not be standing in every Meet and Greet possible as we would do with the kids, we do not have any table service ADR's where a photo package is available and DH is the only one who rides the rides that take your picture other than Buzz Lightyear.

So, my question is this? Do I really need to drop that extra $120 or so to buy the CD this time (we have done it every trip in the past, so I am totally familiar with what it is and how it works). Can we not just walk up to a PhotoPass photographer and ask them to take our pic with our camera? Surely they wouldn't say no.

Thoughts?

To be honest the PP images have been greatly reduced in quality and professionalism over the years since Disney will hire just about anyone who can fog a mirror, hold a camera and pass a few days of training.

I agree. Never been too impressed with the quality. My wife's phone takes much better pictures.

I used to get Photopass on every trip. On our last trip, we upgraded our resort (from a value to moderate) and decided to cut back on other spending. We didn't buy the Photopass, and we didn't miss it one bit. I take enough photos to enjoy once we're home, and I didn't even miss getting the CD in the mail. I don't think I'll be ordering Photopass again.

I got photopass+ for our last trip since it was our honeymoon and I was pretty happy with most of the pictures. There were a few that I wasn't thrilled with (weird lighting, blurry backgrounds, etc).

We had Photopass+ for our last trip and LOVED it. I loved being able to watch DD4 interact with the characters instead or trying to catch it all in pics. Also, the cd of their pics that they send you is very nice as is getting a cd of all your pics. That being said we definitely won't do it every time. I chose it for this past trip because we were there for 7 days, DD still wants to meet every character we see, we did meals that had the packages, and it was the first time DD was big enough to ride SM and such. We almost definitely won't do the Photopass+ for a few years. If we take a long trip again this year I might get the regular Photopass. For a short trip I wouldn't even consider it. I say save the $$ and eat a nice TS instead.

I'm a PP and PP+ fan and I am also a rather decent photographer with a DSLR camera and a great camera phone. We use both our camera, phone and get the photographs. We are just the two of us - no kiddos - but i'm a meet and greet gal and we dine at character dining locations. With that being said, that is why we get the photopass pics. If you know you are not going to be dining at locations with photos and doing the meet and greet thing, then I would say save the cash and don't get it.

Like disneygirl76 we have had the PP but not the PP+. We have not paid the extra for the cd. I usually let them use my camera and/or cell phone to take extras- just in case they don't take exceptional pictures to buy online later. I have had at least 4 or 5 pictures that were really great each year to choose. I wouldn't spend the extra money to get the cd for just the two of you. Just get regular photos and choose some good ones when you get home online.

The only time we used Photo Pass was when it was included as a part of the package and for us, we spent too much time standing in lines for pictures and decided it just wasn't for us.

I still don't see the appeal. We got it for our BBB pics this time since it was just too hard to keep up with both of our girls getting makeovers, but for the most part...I'd rather put the $ into other things, including more camera gear, than paying for mediocre at best PP pics.
