Photopass Picture Quality

We just received prints (8x10, 5x7) of some Photopass pictures that were taken during our vacation in late October. I am not very impressed with the quality of the processing. The color balance is off, and this has caused the pictures to look like they were printed on a 16-color printer.

I was expecting that they would at least do some minimal clean-up of the pictures before printing them! Was I expecting too much?

What is the general experience with getting prints of Photopass pictures?

I always bought mine on cd and printed them myself. I thought the quality was great. No, I never expected them to do touchup.

Past 2 years we have bought the CD online and printed or pics. I have nothing but high marks for photopass, the pictures are always well centered and framed. In fact we only do "character spots" where there are photopass photographers. A Disney photopass picture has been our Christmas card for the past 2 years.

I love photopass - but I have had a couple problems too. Most of my pictures have come out wonderfully, but I've had a handful come out overexposed. I think there's just sometimes nothing much that can be done about bright sunlight in Florida though.

My only issue w/photopass is the fact that most of the photographers can't do the "special" shots. I like to collect all of them being that I'm a Disney dork, but it took forever to get the Stitch ones & I can't manage to get a few of them at all. It's frustrating :brick:

It really depends on a couple things. The photographer is key. There are some VERY good ones doing photopass, and some mediocre ones. Also, if they are rushing because of a huge line, you might get bad pics. Another thing is the weather. Some weather is perfect for beautiful shots, while other weather gives yo nothing but drab grays. And if you get the CD you can post process your photo's to your liking. I've mostly had good results. But have had the occasional clunker. It still a great service.

Got 2 photopass pictures done in February (5x7s) and they come out fine... Had a photo of us taken on our camera with several characters, got it blown up and it come out every bit as good as theirs. We usually hand them our camera when we do pictures, most are equally as good...think when we go in January, we'll mainly just use our own cameras.

We always get at least one photopass picture after we get home. The prints usually come out fine. But I have to admit, just a few this time were not that great. Mostly the shots taken at night or close to it.

The Photo pass pictures are average at best. Have a look at the display shots at the Studios. Poorly exposed badly framed with little or no thought of composition. If it were a snap theyd be OK but at the price Id at least expect the basics, especially as they are now reasonably well equipped.

I bought a couple prints when we got home in October and I thought they were fine (we didn't have enough photos to justify getting the CD). I agree that it totally depends on the photographer, some people just have more of a knack for getting great shots. With the number of shots that they take each day, there is no way that they could ever do touch up to the photos, it would take them way too long to have them available, so I never expected that.

We are the World right now (our 2nd day) and I've noticed that that aren't near as many Photopass photographers as my trip last year. I prebought the CD, and I've only gotten 3 Photopass poses on it so far, 2 character and 1 on Main Street. It seemed to me last year you couldn't swing a cat without hitting a Photopass camera and now I could walk naked down Main Street and couldn't find anyone to take my picture. Heading to Epcot today - hopefully can find a few more.

We had that problem too, which is why we didn't have enough photos to buy the CD. Half of the time the photographers we did find had such long lines we didn't want to wait!

Hmmm. I wonder if this is a move on Disney's part to insure no one gets hundreds of pics on their CD.

I've never been that thrilled with the quality of photo pass and I usually don't put enough photos on in a trip to justify the cost of the CD.

If you ask a photo pass photographer to take one with your camera as well they always oblige. I don't especially care if my photos have a festive boarder or not so I usually just use the one the photographer took with my camera. I hope this little tidbit helps!

We are pretty lucky that Disney lets the photopass photographers take pictures with your own camera. I can see this coming to an end when sales start to really dip down. Thats why I always buy a few of them to help them keep thier jobs. Maybe that is just me.
