Photopass CD Resolution

Does anyone know the specific resolution of the photos on the photopass cd? I'm looking for the Pixel Dimensions-width & height; the Document Size-width & height; and the Resolution-how many pixels/inch.

I understand that they are ok for printing 4x6's, but anything larger than that gets fuzzy/pixelated.

Thanks for your help.

The web preview ones are low resolution and not meant for printing. The cd versions are a high quality.

The cd order page says this:
[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica, times]Disney's PhotoPass CD is $99.95 and includes all valid photos from your Disney's PhotoPass card(s). Images will be in .jpg format and are high resolution (1.5 MB) so that you can obtain high-quality prints. You will receive copyright release documentation when you purchase.

I think disney uses nikon d70 slrs which is a 6mp image. Good enough for 8x10s but not more than that. That would make the jpeg image about 1.5MB which is inline with a 6MP image.

That isn't 100% accurate. A 6mp image can be blown up to at least a 26" x 30" poster size. And the sharpness is crystal clear. I have a 6.3 mp Canon SLR and often blow up my photos very large.

What I'm looking for, more than the fact that it is 1.5 MB's is what height/width & PPI they use.

Thanks to both of your for the response thus far.

All of my PhotoPass photos are around 3008x2000 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. Taken with a Nikon D70.

Thanks for the info. Any idea the width and height in inches? And according to your information (3008x2000 at 300 ppi) Disney is giving everyone the equivalent of the negative. You can take that photo on your photopass and blow it up poster size if you want and it will be clear. I thought I heard people say you could only print 4x6's or 5x7's at the most. The file size you mentioned is huge and makes the Photopass CD well worth the investment. :o Listen to me selling even before I start the job:o

Are you going to be a photopass photographer? If I were to work in Disney, that would be the job I'd want. Just enough guest interaction, you get to do cool things with families, you make everyone smile (haha), and I already have the camera and know how to use it!

I am! My report date is November 1st. Traditions on the 4th. I may have to push all this back a few days though as moving takes more than I remember. And finding a place to live...no fun at all.:hammer:

Photoshop shows the dimensions as 10.027 x 6.667 inches, but the resolution and ppi will allow them to scale much larger and still look good.

I resectfully disagree. I had a 10D, then a 20D, and now a 5D. The 20d was good to about 16x20, but larger than is became pixelated if you're looking from close up. At 24x36 there is no comparison between the 20d and 5d, forget about the 10d. But if you're viewing from a bit of a distance and it's acceptable to you then that's what matters. But my 12.7 can beat up your 6.3 (just joking, are you using a rebel or the 10d?)

Congrats on the new job, it'll be great having a photographer taking some pics other than someone who just happens to have a job taking pics with a camera which unfortunately seems to be about have of the photopass cm's (when I hand them my 5d and flash they look at it like "how the heck do I use this thing and what's the wheel on the back?", the other half is great though.

May I respectfully suggest that perhaps it was your photo lab that was at fault? I have a 10D and I'm telling you, my customers are thrilled with the results when I blow them up big. I use a photo lab that is for professional photographers.

That is funny about your camera and the photopass photographers. But you know, give me a complicated camera and I'm fine. Hand me a point and shoot and I get all confused. And those disposable ones, forget it.

If your lab does that good of a job, that's great. I use a professional lab as well, and wasn't thrilled with the results when viewing close up. From 4 feet away they were ok but still not satisfactory but if you're getting good results then that's what matters. Good luck with the new job.
