Photo pass question

Just wondering if Disney World is the same as Disneyland with regards to being able to get a photopass card and use it throughout your stay without paying for it until the end where you have the option of getting just one picture? We did pay for the cd last year at the end but figured we would do it differently this time and just get a few of the best shots. Or do I have to purchase the whole package? I am an offsite guest with no band. Thanks

There is no obligation to use the Photopass service. You can definitely get a card/use your MB, and wait until you are done and buy single prints of certain pictures. Most people feel that if you buy 8 or more pictures, the Archive CD is a better deal. The WDW package is more expensive as there are many more photo locations at WDW, and they feel you will get more pictures while you are there. Also, they feel that people spend a longer vacation at WDW than at DLR.

WDW photopass works the same way. Any photopass photographer can either scan your card or give you a new one. You can then use that during your stay and then view/buy/download either at PhotoPass kiosks in the park or from your computer later.

Prices are kinda crazy though, you'll pay something like $15/photo (unless you have discount codes) or $149 (something around that) for all your photos.

Yes, absolutely. What I've always done is hand over my own camera, ask them to shoot a few pictures then they'll take some on their camera and hand you a photopass/scan your photopass. Sometimes, for M&G, the character's handler will shoot the picture so the photographer doesn't have to shuffle cameras.

They've always been really good about taking pictures on whatever camera you hand them

We purchased the photo pass plus package last time I went so we could get the ride and character breakfast photos on our cd for free. We also had a big family going so it was worth it for us. But yeah, if you want to save some money, they will usually take pictures with your personal camera. And yes, if you don't buy the cd in advance, it works the same way, you can get as many pictures as you want taken, and then just purchase the ones you want.
