PhD has a trip planning question

Hi there, since becoming DVC members we have lost all track of the know hows in makting ressies for WDW. (Gotta love member services!)

For our next trip (Jan 1-7) we are staying at VWL. Some friends of ours with a son the same age as little PhD are planning to go with us and being the Disney experts we need to tell them how to do it the best way.

They would like to rent a room for the same time at WL. Right now I don't think there are any codes out for that time or AP rates. We have annual passes, if we are there when they check in they can use our passes right? (they are good friends, I don't mind it being on our cc if nessasry and them paying us back.)

Should they make the ressies now to ensure a room, or wait until any codes come out. If they cancel will they have any fines or charges? Should they go through Travel agent (AAA or such) or just call CR themsevles?

Thanks for the help

Mrs. PhD.

This is similar to a question in another thread. As I recall the answer, the rack rates are already published. If you book and then a cheaper rate comes up, you should be able to get the price readjusted with no problem. I recall this hapening to us in 2001 when we had reses and then 9/11 took place and they dropped rates to bring people back. We called and got the better price with no arguments.

BTW: one of these days we should have a local meet among the R.O. people here, if there hasn't been one already.

Thanks monorailmike, I thought that was the case, but being the local Disney nut around here I didn't want to be wrong (and have it cost them $) I think I will tell her to try to book it now, I know WL fills up fast in Winter since it is so warm and cozy, then I will keep an eye out for codes. If they can't get a room at WL I know they can get one in another resort, but I was hoping they would be close by and able to hang out in our 1 bedroom. (kids take a nap in the same room in afternoon so only one adult has to stay in ect...)

Does anyone know if they can get the AP rate on my pass? I hope so (if they even have some.) At least it is value session already.

About a RO get together, I think that is a great idea. Maybe meet at the Mall or Zoo one day (before it gets too cold for the zoo.)

I don't think there will be any AP discounts for Jan 1st, but if they are your name would have to be on the Ressie to get the AP Discount

As I recall, the Winter Dreammaker package is not good Jan 1, but will be good Jan 2-7.

You could bite the bullet on the 1st and pay whatever you have to, then book the package for those last 5 days.

That is a really good idea, I will look into that. (or they could just come on the 2nd instead and meet us there.) Is the dream maker package like the fairy tale where you need to have 7 nights?

Crazy girly, I wouldn't leave you out! (Even if West Bloomfied does feel it is better then Royal Oak.)

I think we have about 10 southeast Mich members around here, Mouse Madness and Stobe too if I remember right.

You are correct! And also southWEST mich :D

We went one year, and the package didn't include the day we wanted to get there, so we stayed either off-site the first night, and just put extra clothes in a backpack.

Hey there PHd!!! I would go with the Winter Dream Maker Package. It is just a discounted version of the regular kind of package and no set number of days are required. For 4 nights and 5 days with the Ultimate Park hopper included for two adults at a Moderate it was 909.52. The code for this is ZXMA and it has to be booked by Sept 22, so give a call!!! Hope this helps!!! Belle

Thanks for the info. I was looking at mousesavers.com to find out what I could, and didn't find much. I haven't done a package before, how good of a deal is it? Should I look anywhere for info on it?

OK I got some numbers for ya!!!
Regular package with no discount for a Moderate is $1145.70 for two adults
Room Only rate for a moderate is $593.20
5 Day hopper Pass $231.11 per person
5 day Ultimate Park Hopper $265.19 per person
Roughly it is an 18 or 19 % savings over a non discounted package, but it still wouldnt be cheaper than booking with an AP rate. You may want to book a room only package ( More flexible cancellation and change terms) and worry about the Park Hoppers later or be able to change to an AP rate. Hope this helps, Belle

Thanks wannabeBelle, I passes the info to my friend. She then went online at Expedia and found set up a package with everything they wanted (Jan 2 to 7 at Wilderness lodge with non stop airfare from Det.) So she called me this morning all excited.

So the Jan trip will be 4 adults (32 year olds) 2 little ones (2 year olds) and 1 poor 12 year old (my niece!) Should be great.

It also will be our 1st trip to our "home" resort VWL. Looking forward to it. I hear that WL is just wonderful in the winter, so warm and cozy, I hope the X- mas decorations stay up some when we are there.

Now if I can just get little PhD under control. We went shopping the other day with this friend and the 2 of them ran amock around the stores. I think I am getting a lease. (or at least being a better parent!)

Ok, now for the Metro Detroit get together. Or should we just start a new thread?

Maybe you should start a new thread in chit chat, perhaps? Less confusing, plus it'll get the word out to all of us!!!

was she able to get a decent price?? A friend of mine is also pricing packages for November and Travelocity seemed to be doing better than Disney themsleves!! They got a package for somewhere around $650.00 for 2 adults, airfare included for the All Stars!! That was for 3 days and two nights I believe. Belle

I belive it was around 2 thousand for 2 adults and one 2 year old at WL. (that also incudled air fare and UPH passes for 6 days.) She said it was around 40% off. Much eaiser then dealing with the whole using our AP too. The good thing is they are in the same resort as us so that will be really nice.

crazygirley, look for the new thread.
