Don't you just love cultural stereotypes?

I'm sure some French-Disney website has a simmilar thread full of jokes about us fat, lazy, war-mongering Americans.

Isn't it great how intolerance and bigotry go both ways?

Now you just made me think of the old show "Dinosaurs" when they started up the "W.A.R.(We Are Right)" campaign. And the uniforms had circles on the backs that looke like bullseyes.

And in many cases, so are they...

Regardless, the reason I posted that was because I really don't understand how people that can love Disney so much can be so bigoted, but I see it all the time.

Oh well, ignorant people are everywhere, I guess. It's too bad that even Dinsey magic cannot protect us from that.

There is definitly something wrong with a culture when they idolize Jerry Lewis!

Someone mentioned on the comments following that 2-way radios aren't allowed to be carried on. Over the 4th, my wife took one with her and no one said a thing.

My brother-in-law had a huge non-realistic neon water pistol taken from his carry-on bag when going through security back in the 80's. I think the weapon-like confiscation has been going on for years.

Ok I don’t see how having plastic swords taken away is going to ruin anyone’s trip but if I was on that plane I would thank Alvis that they took the swords form the kids – who wants two year olds playing with swords on an airplane disturbing everyone else?

Regardless of how “cowardly” the French may have appeared in the “war on terror” (or any other war for that matter), I can attest first hand that they take airport security way too seriously – I was in Charles de Gaulle getting ready to fly home when the attacks of September 11th 2001 happened, we were left in the dark and had no clue as to what was going on or if the attacks were real (no one was telling us why we couldn’t leave and we couldn't get a phone line out). But then the call came to evacuate the airport and before we knew it we had AK-47s pointed in our faces and a dude telling us in broken English that it was time to go. Luckily we had American Express could go back to Disneyland Paris and get a room, but for the Americans who couldn’t get a place to stay, the French people opened their homes.

For the 3 three days that we were trapped in Disneyland Paris we saw nothing but kindness and good will – until we went back to Charles de Gaulle where the French police had no regard for the rights of their people, I guess in trying times sacrifices need to be made for the greater good, but here in the good old USA I have yet to see a sub machine gun at an airport or see the blatant disregard for persons rights as I did in France.

I have seen machine guns in airports. Remember when the National Guard was posted at the security screening locations after 9/11?? Every single one of them had a M-16 (AR-15 for the technical folks)

This has to be the funniest threads I have ever read. I can imagine that someday if they totally outlaw any kind of forks, spoons or plastic knives on airplanes, everyone will be eating like you do at Medevil Times: just one sloppy mess.

After 9/11 nothing really changed at our local airport for the exception that you cant go past the metal detectors anymore.. you need a boarding pass for that.. But then again our airport Lehigh Valley International (ABE) only has 12 terminals so it isnt too big and the only reason it's considered "international" is because they have flights to and from Canada! Lol...

Personally, I would not consider that as taking airport security "way too seriously." Multiple, coordinated terrorist attacks had just taken place and no one yet knew whether the scope was limited to America or international. In fact, the evacuation was most likely intended to protect you. Also consider that the guards were probably terrified themselves and trying very hard to think on their feet for a situation they were most certainly unprepared for.

I actually flew out of DeGaulle in October of that year, and aside from the inconvenience of only one metal detector being operational, found the security to be very similar to what I experienced in New York, Boston, and London on the other legs of my journey. And everyone I met on that trip (including the French) was gracious, kind, and supportive.

As for not seeing machine guns in the "good old USA," you have obviously not been to New York recently. I walk by them every time I go through Penn Station and often at the subways. And if you come visit us during the Republican Convention, I'm sure you'll find one on every corner.
