Peter Pan gender change?

PP has always been a boy when we have gone to the parks (that I have noticed). We did a Peter Pan skit with our playgroup and our Peter was a boy. Actually he was a 40 year old man with Down's (my whole group is special needs). It was like pulling teeth to talk him into wearing green tights. However, after the skit, he said they were pretty comfy. He was an EXCELLENT Peter Pan. The ulitmate/ironic case of 'won't grow up'. I get teary eyed just thinking about it now.

T=The reason why it was changed to a woman's role in stage productions is because of the flying contraption. In the early days of flying mechinisms the harness, unlike what we see today, was...should we say... "quite uncomfortable" for a male to perform in.
I am a male and I have used a flying harness on stage (as The Ghost of Jacob Marley in Scrooge) and I have to say that they are still a tad uncomfortable  The flying experts could not emphasise enough that the fit around a certain tender area had to be spot on - not "near enough" but spot on!

I ended up with bruising - on my sides. *Phew*

I know all about those harnesses as well. I've worked with ZFX quite a few times on flying effects to know that any actor must truely "act" when they are wearing those things. Ouch! Not nearly as fun as one would think!
