Hi! I've heard of CM-Style name badges that you can have your name put on and I have a few questions.

Where are they sold?
What do they look like?
How much do they cost?

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Do they actually sell these? I would think they would be apprehensive to do so because if you were to wear them around in the parks it might cause confusion with people thinking you are a real CM or something.

They used to. I really wanted one with Figment on it but for one reason or another I never got around to getting one. I haven't seen them in a few years though. :(

I asked about them a few years ago and I was told to go to a certin store but when I got there they told me we didn't have any. So, I guess they don't sell them any more.

They were available at the store at DTD that does the mouse ears and picture frame personalisation. Non Cms can only purchase red badges I believe. Dont know if they are still there.

I haven't seen these anywhere in a while. There were multiple colors and designs available, but no white ones, as those would look too much like CM nametags. They were also much larger than the CM nametags.

I wanted to get one when the 50th anniversary was going on but I forgot to buy one so I found two on ebay. The person who I bought the name badges from were able to get one engraved with my name. So I have one with my name and one without. I guess i got lucky.

Exactly! There was a thread a while back about Disney fans who get mistaken for Disney CMs and I remember one member on here mentioned that he always wears his pseudo-CM badge... and still couldn't figure out why guests would always come up and ask him questions.

I remember a trip where someone came up and asked me some random question, I don't even remember what it was, but he seemed an odd mix of surprised and disgusted when I told him I had no idea what the answer to his question was. It didn't dawn on me until a couple seconds later he probably thought I was a CM because I was wearing a pin lanyard with my "pseudo-CM" name badge.

That completely turned me off of wearing it after that.

And that, in my opinion, is the right thing to do. I think there are some people who do it because they WANT guests to think they work there.

My son and I wear the nametags whenever we're in WDW. I don't want people to think I work there and if anyone mistakes me for a CM I correct them [I usually answer their questions anyway, I have been there enough that I can normally steer them to where they want to go].

The badges were sold to guests and WDW CMs have never suggested it was not appropriate to wear them, in fact most commented on what a nice idea it was and asked where I got them. They are a nice conversation starter with CMs and other guests. I looked around for them on our last trip, but didn't see them anywhere, which is a pity given the number of people who have asked where I got ours.

I was waiting for you to chime in Monty, I knew you had them.

A shame they don't have any. My family an some friends want some.

Did you look at the Christmas store at DTD?

This one, well, my mom actually acquired many over 1996-1997, minus the sticker. :D

I don't mind answering questions at all, and I'm sure if I'd answered that guy's question instead of making him think I was blowing him off I probably wouldn't have given wearing the badge a second thought.

With my luck he probably returned home and started a thread here about a clueless EPCOT cast member named "Matt." :ROFLOL:

Seeing as how it's an item they once sold, I'm not surprised that no CM has ever suggested it was "not appropriate" for you to wear it. However, I do believe that the reason they stopped selling them is most likely because they learned it created problems. To the average guest seeing someone wearing one, it probably looks like an employee. If that person happens to be doing something that does not represent Disney in the best light (such as swearing for example) then that creates a problem with perception. And I suspect most guests don't stop to take note of the fact that the "official" CM name tags are white while these are red. In most people's eyes, if I see you wearing a badge with your name on it, then you are an employee of the place.
