Percentage of getting requested room

I have only recently began requesting specific rooms or buildings at the Resorts at WDW. How many people feel that this works and at what percentage of the time? Has anyone ever requested a room and got "sorry, but that room/building is not available"?

While we usually get the room we request, last year it wasn't ready (still being cleaned). We were given a free upgrade and liked that room even better.
And they do keep track of how often you visit because when we confirmned our reservations last week they knew we had stayed there numerous times before & that we always ask for the same rooms. This year we requested our favorite room or the one we had last year. Either will work for us.

We are heading to WDW in August and have requested two connecting rooms at Dixie Landings. We have been told that while they will try and accomodate us they cannot guarantee it. Has anyone else requested connecting rooms? How successful were you? Are connecting rooms limited to one side of the river (Bayou vs Magolia Terrace) or do both sides have them available? Thanks!

Both sides have connecting rooms. If you can check in earlier in the day, do that because it's easier to get what you want earlier vs. later.

If for some reason they are unable to accomodate your request the first night, ask (NICELY) about changing rooms to connecting ones the next night.

a request is just that, a request. It's never a guarantee, so don't go in expecting it 100%. The request means that IF available, and if possible, it will happen, but it doesn't have to.

However, this knowledge is lost to most people at checkin.

When I went in January of 2003 my mom requested a specific room in POFQ and we got it. She made the reservations really far in advance so I dont know if this had something to do with it :veryconfu :lookaroun

We have requested certain buildings and first floor each time we have gone. We have yet to run into a problem. We have the attitude that at Disney, there is no bad room...so its ok even if we dont get what we request :)

I have never been able to. I fax my request a few days before I arrived but no luck. Unless I wanted to change my room during my stay. But I did not want to take time out of my day to do that.

Hmmm... have you ever tried requesting the same day you make the reservations???

Yeah--my understanding is that more and more, those faxed requests get "filed."

Think about it for a minute.
You're the room assigner. There are 300 rooms to be assigned for tomorrow. You have a 5 inch stack of faxes. Do you REALLY feel like sifting through that pile trying to match the fax to the information on your computer? Oh yeah--the resort is short staffed, and you've got 30 minutes to assign the rooms before you have to take a load of cookies to concierge.

IMHO, it is far safer to get that request noted on your reservation, so when it comes up on the computer, the assigner sees "Griswold family, connecting rooms, non-smoking, near the ice machine."

I have requested rooms 5 or 6 times and each time requested a specific floor, building, and location as well as non smoking. I have gotten the exact rooms I have asked for every time. :sohappy:

While, it's always the best to note requests when making reservations and again while checking in, there are multiple room assigners for each resort.

In our experience, we have always gotten connecting rooms when we requested them. We always mention that we want it the day we make the reservation. One time when we checked into AS Sports my mom asked if it's possible to get rooms in the baseball section (big baseball fanatic), not expecting to actually get them. Turns out, they had rooms available so that one time we were lucky. Plus, we went in September so that could be another reason.
