People who have stayed at both POR & CBR

Which do you prefer and why?

I always stay at PORiverside...but I'm considering Caribbean Beach this year. I'm worried that it will be a downgrade. They have no lounge...they have no piano dude. And, with my luck...I'll be placed at the far end of the resort and have to take a taxi to the food court.

I mean, I like to walk...but 3 miles is a little too much at the end of the day to go to the food court...

I've stayed at both. I've been at POR twice (Dixie Landings was its name the first time that I stayed there). Caribbean Beach was our resort in 2001. I loved them both. I remember more from POR since I've been there most recently but I do remember quite a bit from Caribbean Beach as well. Since you've been at POR so much, stay at CB this time. I love the tropical setting and all, it is just so different from boring ol' southeast Missouri.

However, POR, I must say, is absolutely beautiful! I LOVED the setting. It was amazing. However, I didn't like the walk. We were in Acadian House and the walk was atleast 5 minutes to the food courts. It was worth it though...I really liked the food court setting and all. At Caribbean Beach, I don't remember exactly how long the walk was to the food courts but honestly, I don't think we went there all that much. It was an 8 day trip and I think we visited them maybe 4 times. I remember us taking the bridge/boardwalk to the food courts one night and it was a lovely walk. It took maybe oh... 8 minutes? We were staying in Barbados.

I've stayed at the Acadian House...I liked the walk...over the bridge...pass the pool...but my thinking is, that Caribbean Beach is a much longer walk because the resort is stretched out into one long island.

I suppose I could jog...

I LOVE POR and love POFQ even better. They are my fav. I've stayed at CBR twice and did not care for it at all.

I've been hearing good things about French Quarter...

What didn't you like about CBR?

The 3 mile walk?

I am telling you!! If that is what you want in your walk, scenic and not too long, request the island of Aruba, building 52. It is a non-smoking (51 is smoking) room just a few feet from the main wooden bridge that transports you over the lake, through Parrot Cay Island, over another bridge, and past the main Spanish fortress pirate inspired pool.

We've stayed at Caribbean Beach at least a dozen times. Aruba is the place to stay to really experience the lushness of the Resort, based on its views and proximity to OPR.

We've stayed at Dixie Landings back in the day, also in Acadian House, and did not care for it as much. On the contrary, we did not like the theme as pretty as the place was. We prefered the Caribbean. These days, however, we have stopped stayingat Caribbean and have moved over to Yacht Club. But next time we cannot get deluxe, we will undoubtedly stay at Caribbean.

It's a combination of things. The walk is one thing. I don't care much for the layout. This past trip, the ladies who worked in package pick-up were rude (BOTH times we went to pick up packages). The atmosphere as a whole, I guess. Just wasn't the same as POR or POFQ to me. But, I guess that's why they have so many different themed resorts. Something for everyone. lol

I don't know if it's something new that all of the resorts are doing now, but each night when we'd come back from the parks, the food court would be closed (even where you refill your mug). In the past, we'd always be able to get a refill after coming in from the parks (at POR and POFQ).

DON'T FLAME ME

My wife HATES PO so we have stayed there only one time. I have stayed at the CBR resort at least 100 days. It was our favorite mod resort. It seems to me the last 3 or 4 trips we stayed at CBR it has really began to show its age. The rooms were a little run down and the whole resort felt a little dirty. Our favorite mod shifted to CSR but I convinced her to try PO again so I'll tell you how it turns out.Anymore for me its the Contemporary or POP... all or nothing.

That's how it felt to me this past Dec.

We've stayed at all of the moderates as of 2005. My father and I both agree the we like POFQ, because it's small size, but didn't like POR because it seemed run down with dead grass and the fountain in front of our building was dead the whole trip, the magic just wasn't there for us. CBR is my favorite moderate because of the central location and I really enjoyed the pool bar to relax at after a long day at the parks. My father prefers the CSR because of the food court and the bus service(and the bar with free chips and salsa). However, I feel you can't beat the views of the CBR and CSR, especially at night. Maybe it's because it's 25 below out right now where I'm at and we only see palm trees once a year when were at Disney:rolleyes:.

Now, if they had a shuttle from each building...

Aruba to Old Port Royale is approx. a 5 minute walk. It's a very leisurely stroll with nice surroundings. It isn't a hike from Aruba. And Aruba's bus stop is right there, as is their own quiet pool and beach.

--Martinque and Trinidad North are too close, one really doesn't get to explore.
--Aruba and Jamaica are across the lake and in a great location with a nice proximity to all you will need.
--Trinidad South and Barbados are the farther away islands.

EVERYBODY...GET HIM!

Why would we flame you? You gave an honest opinion.

Is it that you like POR and your wife doesn't? Why?

The only thing I wouldn't like about CSR is that they don't let you get your own food at the food court.

The outside bar at CBR is starting to sound interesting though...

5 minute walk is not a problem...

I can make it back to the room before my pizza gets cold...

providing the food court isn't closed

In December of 2002 the food court was open 6am till 1130pm, extended to 12am on friday and saturday nights.

I'd assume that is pretty standard with the food courts at most mods/values.

Banana Cabana is a lot of fun. I don't even drink alcohol ever, but I enjoy hanging out there. It's very laid back, the juices are great, and there have been times with live steel drummers present. Also from this area, a good amount of Illuminations fireworks can be seen above Aruba across the lake.
