People falling off floats

I hope this is in the right section. I was wondering if anybody has ever seen or has pictures of characters or dancers falling off floats during a parade. In particular I was hoping if anyone was watching the 1988 or 1989 11:00 pm christmas parade the first saturday night in December and saw a "puppet" characarter fall off under the Pinocchio float. This float was a four section float and the incident happed near coke/casey's corner. The part of the story that I know is that during the parade the float got stuck in the trolley track and when the float driver finally jerked the float out the peformer fell off the float still attached by the strings and had to keep rolling to keep from being run over. In a few seconds a person from the other side of the float jumped over the entire float and threw the performer back on to the float and in the process jolting the performer's hip back into place that had just been previously dislocated by falling off the float. Needless to say as soon as the float got to the Fronteirland bridge she was rushed off to the hospital where she left the next morning with only some big bruises. I am very curious to know exactly how this whole thing went down because this is only stories from my parents and grandparents and my grandparents only heard it from there friends so who knows how accurate it is. If anybody has any pictures and/or videos of this please post them. My mom doesn't remember it really well due to her more important matter of trying not to be run over. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, my mom was the puppet.

i highly doubt someone would remember the exact date they watched a parade over a decade ago, but good luck. sounds scary, did your mom still perform after that?

Seems like your mom should remember the exact date and year if it was her that actually feel off the float during the parade.

Interesting story, nonetheless.

Welcome to the boards.

Yes she did, she started again about two weeks after. She isn't really performing any more but she is still working for Disney entertaining guests if you know what I mean.

So, she's a character now?

Well if you must know she is really good friends with a couple of chipmunks. However can we please stick with the topic at least a little?

Yikes, a little stingy on who she's friends with huh? Don't worry, ease up, there are a decent amount of members on here who are friends with many characters :)

I find it kind of annoying that Character Performers need to be referred to as "friends" of the character rather than the character itself. Yeah yeah, magic and show. It's just starting to get on my nerves, especially with the above posts.

Amen to that! I was thinking the same thing!!!

I think that most of the Characters are tethered in somehow. I know that soem of them are atleast. but they are usually camoflaged into the decorations, or they are against a wall or surrounded by a hoop type thing,

The chipmunks on the piano in Spectromagic have tethers, and they're not camoflaged very well at all. They look like the tethers that ironworkers wear! Oh well, Safety First.

On the "friends" subject - I agree. We're all big boys and girls here, and for those who are younger, I'm sure that if they wanted to maintain the magic, they'd go to the official WDW site and not a discussion board where secrets are revealed, real-life subjects are discussed and we confirm that, YES, there are real people inside character costumes - GASP!!! If the kiddies are old enough to get on the internet, have a login here, and can discuss subjects, they should be well adapted to this fact - I hope! :p

Ok, so his mom performed as a chipmunk - that's cool. :sohappy:
