doesnt it drive you crazy when people call things at disney the wrong thing or say it right but add somting weird to it......for example

spaceship earth:the golf ball, the big ball
the tree of life: just a tree, the big tree
magic kingdom: disney world

it also annoys me when people who go for the first time say i just want to go to disney world not the other places(other places meaning other parks and disney world meaning mk)

It never irritates me if the casual guest does not have 100% perfect knowledge of every little aspect of WDW.

Frankly, I do not understand why people should be so annoyed by it.

I remember a sad chapter where on some family WDW website, that shall remain unmentioned here, insults and threats were directed at a local Canadian reporter for getting the name of the 'Teacups' wrong.

It doesn't drive me nuts necessarily, but it just goes to show how little the 'average' guest plans before they come.

OK, I take it back, the people who refer to MK as Disney World do drive me a little nuts!

For being a Disney fanatic, it doesnt bother me in the least, it isnt going to ruin my day if you say you want to go to disney instead of M K...

Never happens, as there are only suggested names of things at Disney so that Disney people know where to go to work.;)

It absolutely irritates me, I can't stand it. It won't kill some people do a little research before they go on vacation. When I was a CM I had guests ask me questions that I had no idea what they were talking about and THEY were the ones that got irritated because I couldn't understand or help them. I would try and correct them and ask if they meant this or that and they'd look at me and roll their eyes like I shouldn't be working there.

My favorite:
Guest: (at TTC) I can take a boat from here to Universal Studios, yeah?
Me: Oh do you mean Hollywood Studios?
Guest: No, I'd just take the monorail there. I want Universal.
Me: (slight hesitation) Ok, Universal is another theme park in the Orlando area and is not affiliated with Disney. You may take a taxi from here though.
Guest: (getting edgy now) No, no I'm not leaving Disney and I'm not paying for no cab! I just want to show my kids the Pokemon thing!
Me: You're in the wrong place.

I didn't no what else to say or do. I just knew I couldn't reason with this guest.

It doesn't really irritate me. I just chuckle a little.

Like when people call Expedition Everest "Mount Everest" or the time someone asked me directions to the Magic Kingdom while we were standing in Frontierland (she meant Cinderella Castle) :ROFLOL:

When I was a CM...

Are you allowed to acknowledge the existence of Universal Studios or SeaWorld when you work as a cast member? I know when I worked at McDonald's in high school, people would order Whoppers all the time. It was a HUGE no-no to mention Burger King or Wendy's, so we had to just say "I'm sorry, we don't carry the Whopper. Would you like a Big and Tasty?"

I always hated that name...if I wanted something big and tasty, I would NOT be at McDonald's.

Don't know how anyone can get that upset when they're in Disney over something that others say, just enjoy what you're doing and smile to yourself about it. Unlike us some people are just visiting a theme park that they have little prior knowledge of, let's be honest there's a heck of a lot of attractions throughout the parks. If I or you went to Alton Towers (a theme park in England) then I wouldn't expect us to know the exact names of the attractions and there's a lot less. I'm sure the cast members have problems with it, but as guests we shouldn't care what others say unless it's offensive

Sorry, we are one of those families that call Spaceship Earth "The Big Golf Ball" but it's a joke to us and we do know the correct name of it. :D

We watched a Disney special on Travel Cannel once and the lady kept calling Cinderella's Castle "the magic castle" My kids found that SO amusing. I also have a friend that kept saying she was going to ride magic mountain. Never figured out what they meant..hated to ask though.. Did not want to sound mean... lol

It doesn't annoy me because I'm not nitpicky. People can call things whatever they like, NOW when people say things like Universal is a part of disney, that irritates me because idgi how people can go to Orlando and not know the difference.

It kind of annoys me when adults do it, but my when my DNephew was 2 he looked over at spaceship earth and said "the moon". I thought it was very cute, and since it was cloudy we couldn't see the real moon to correct him.

When people call a beautiful monument to human achievement "the giant golf ball", I become rather irritated. So yes.

That's the only one which irritates me... I think sometimes I flinch a little when I hear it. :ROFLOL: Calling it "the golf ball" in a serious fashion just seems so disrespectful compared to the huge achievement it actually is.

"Magic Mountain" seems to come up a lot, oddly, considering it doesn't really resemble the names of any of the actual mountains. That's sometimes a popular name for the Matterhorn at Disneyland, with guests wanting to give it a name to match the other mountains, but I don't know what it could refer to at WDW...
