Penny Press Machines

My in laws gave my daughter a mini m&m container filled with pennies and another with quarters before our trip last year. She would pick out her favorite penny presses & collect them for her book. It was fun finding the machines and choosing favorites. Definitely fun for my husband & me too, I don't think it's just for kids! ;)

$4 billion for EPCOT
This is something we're going to do this trip with our 7 and 5 yr olds. They aren't terribly adventurous lol so we're taking a very leisurely 10 day trip. Lots of character pics, autographs, and pressed pennies!

Hint: The plastic tube container that micro M&Ms come in (I usually only find these at the checkout counter instead of on the candy aisle) perfectly hold quarters. When we go to Disney we load one up with 2 quarters and then a shiny penny, 2 quarters and then a shiny penny... you get the idea. That way we have it ready to go and organized.

I'm afraid to count how many squished pennies we have.

I always try to do one for fun. On my desk at work, I have one of the Jungle Cruise that I've had for years, and one of Mulan that I pressed at Epcot last month.

Is there a map of were the penny press's are in the parks

I haven't found an updated map online. I do know when I was there in July there was a sign on the machine with a URL that you could visit that gave you information on all the locations. I can't find it in a google search so it might not be indexed.

I saw online someone had arranged several in a Mickey head and framed it, it was well done and looked really good.

I remember a friend of mine and I getting into an argument about smashed pennies. He says they're illegal because you're destroying U.S. currency, but I told him "elongated coins" is a branch of numismatics ("coin collecting") and it's perfectly legal to smash and collect these as long as they're not being melted down for the purpose to make counterfeit coins. :)

HAPPY SMASHING!!

in a local children's museum, they have a couple of them, on each machine, there is a plaque that answers that question. It sites the law showing that it is legal to do it. I've never actually looked it up.. so they may be making it up and hope people don't call their bluff.. but it is there.. :)

I've dabbled in numismatics for a short-time and that was one of the things I immediately looked up. I was taught the same thing - don't destroy US currency. But, in this case...it's OK. :)

51 cents. You put in two quarters and a penny (that will be turned into the souvenir).

They are in the process of changing them out. The new ones you can't crank. It's automatically done for you. And you choose what design you want on a screen instead. And they charge $1.01 each.

Are the books that some of you are putting them in, special for these coins, or are you just making them fit in a regular coin book?
I only have a couple, but after reading this thread maybe I will start a little collection. Cheap and small, I like that!

I have three books that I bought at Disney that fit them. You can find them at various locations throughout the park near machines.
