PC Game Pads

I want to get a game pad as a gift for a friend with a PC. Any suggestions? I've been looking at the Microsoft SideWinder USB and the SideWinder Pro USB. Are these game pads good? Would a joystick be better? Is force feedback a desirable feature? I don't know very much about these things so any help is welcomed.

Any of those gamepads would be fine...I personally don't care for joysticks. If you plan on playing fight simulator games, it might be good for you to have both. I don't find the joysticks good for non-flight games. IMHO.

Joysticks are mostly for flight games only (at least to me). But I got the Wingman Cordless Rumblepad by Logitech for $50 (I think it came down in price) but you can get one that does have a cord for alot less, its nice.

Thank you Tigger Boing and blm07. Your advice was very helpful. There sure are a lot of choices but I'm starting to narrow down the options. Thanks again.
