Paying trip off - Stressfull?

Curious if others get stressed out about paying their trips off. Once my trip is booked, I feel as though I have to get it paid off ASAP. We just booked Disneyland last week for April, and I've called to make a few payments and each time the CM says "This doesn't have to be paid until you check in." I can't do that. I have to get it paid for immediately.

What I do Is Put money away every week in an envelope so technically it is paid off just not in Disney Worlds Eyes, I booked my trip last September for this Sept and have had 2,500 literally sitting at my moms house waiting for that 45 day mark :)

I do something similar. I transfer money every day from my checking account into my vacation account. Once I have another $500 saved, I call and make a payment.

I think this trip is stressing me out because as soon as this is finished being paid off, we have our WDW trip in July, so I need to get that going.

:jawdrop: Minimum of $3,000 to have a savings account???? That is crazy.

My bank has a checking account that you can earn interest on and not get charged ATM fees if you have a minimum of $500 in. I thought that was a lot.

I only have 1 checking account that I use to pay my bills with. I have my savings/vacation account. I won't let that account drop below a certain amount, but anything over that is for vacation.

I am like you. If I have the money I book online and pay the deposit then call Disney and pay off the rest right away. I like knowing that my room and tickets are payed in advance. If I can't pay it off I make payments every month. I too have a holiday account at my bank and transfer any extra money into it. Even after the trip is payed off. That gives me money for food and extra's while I'm on vacation. Your bank sounds terrible you need to find another! I have to leave $250 in checking to avoid a $10. service charge and $300 in savings or a $5 charge, but I get interest on both accounts. Free ATM's.

I'd look at other banks or credit unions. I pay myself first...so I tend to hang on to my money and let it earn whatever interest I can. Then I make the payment when it is due...as much as I want that trip paid for I hate parting with my money. lol. I am the saver in the family and I like to see those numbers rise. ;)

I used to worry but not anymore. I just pay the $200 deposit at booking. I will throw another payment a few months later, then as we get closer to September (when it has to be paid in FULL), I will tell my TA to take the remaining balance and it's paid! It is a great feeling in the end!

I don't stress, we make sure that we will have the money before we book, as a result I actually look forward to paying my bill. It brings us that much closer to actually being in WDW.
Yeah, I prefer stress free as well.....we pay off our trip as soon as we book it, then if there is an AP discount, I call back and get a credit or change or upgrade our resort and pay the remaining if any.

I simply don't book the trip unless I have the money right then to pay for it all. But this is also the reason I like the DDP. Its all paid for in advance. No worrying about having enough money for that steak that looks so good.

I use the Disney credit card for all of my payments so I can get the points and take my time and pay it off over 6 months as I choose. Sometimes, to extend the 6 months, I'll just go online and make little payments each month with the credit card and then I pay off the little payment from 6 months before. Spaces it out, no interest and I got points! Whee!

You make it sound so simple, lol :) But if I tried the same thing it would never work out and I would get hit with interest and a large balance.

DW does the same. We always have the money saved to pay it off so theres no stress.

We generally don't get trip insurance for our Disney trips so I pay the balance on the final day it is due. Even if I had insurance, I would never want to pay the balance sooner than it is due - better to have the money in my account than theirs.

Yeah it is time to shop around. The Big Banks are sticking it to you royally!!

I have 1 brand new saving account at my local credit union - I just opened it 3 months ago with $30. Then we had to have the house re-piered...so it has sat dormant...but my credit union faithfully sent me a statement today...that I had earned a whole PENNY !! for the quarter year.

Congrats!

Any big plans on what to do with it?
