Paying for stuff!

It has been many years since I travelled to WDW. I hope this question doesn’t sound too moronic but there were no magic bands when we were last there. My daughters both have large gift cards they were given to take on this trip. What is the best way for them to use the cards? Should they put them onto their room accounts when we get there? Is that even a thing? Do you use your magic bands in all parks, restaurants, shops to pay for things? What about Disney Springs? Magic bands there also? Typhoon Lagoon? Where can you not use them? Thanks for any help!

You can use the MBs all over WDW property to pay for things, though not all restaurants take them. If they have gift cards, why not just pay with them? They should have a balance after each one, to let them know what is left to spend.

They both feel uncomfortable carrying around a gift card with $1000 on it for fear of loss. Also I had heard using it for mobile ordering is a hassle for having to input all the numbers each time. Would it be best for them to just hold the gift card to the end of the trip and then using it to apply against their account?

Yes, they can do that as well.
They may need to go pay down their charges before the end of the trip. There’s a limit and they’ll go ahead and charge your cc on file when you hit it.

You could get them each a smaller gc to carry around. $50? And then use the Disney gift card website to transfer money from the big one to the smaller one. I haven’t tried this, but I assume it’s doable. Then you could top up the smaller card as needed.

Edited to fix ridiculous autocorrects

I always have issues with resort charges in WDW. I avoid it altogether. Yes, you have to stay on top of your balance as they will gradually charge your CC card as the balance rises.

FYI transferring balances from card to card on the GC site can only be done via full amounts; so you wouldn't be able to have a big $1000 one and move only $50 here and there, it's all or nothing of the current balance.

Thanks! I wasn’t sure if that was the case. My idea (several posts back) wouldn’t work then. That’s too bad. It would be handy. I’d rather have 1 gc with $1000 than 10 gc with $100 each, but I’d rather carry around a gc with $100.
