Paying for room with gift cards and canceling?

Hi all,

I just discovered the benefit of paying for our resort room with Disney Gift Cards. That being said, what are the drawbacks? The CM told me the only way to refund the money deposited to our room via gift cards is to put it back on the gift card. She warned me not to throw away the gift cards for this reason just in case.

Does anyone know if this is true? Has anyone been able to get a refund any other way if they cancelled? I just find it hard to believe if for some reason I lost my gift card and had to cancel that I am just "sol".

I have never had to cancel, but I was told the same thing. Hold on to it because they return money the same way you paid it.

We paid with gift cards because at Kroger we got 4x the fuel points for purchasing gift cards there. I was told the same thing about keeping them.

The CM was correct. Refunds, whether they be for a vacation booking or a merchandise returned to a store, is credited back to the source it came from. In this instance, it would be back onto the gift card(s) you used to pay.

If you no longer have the gift cards, you'd then have to start procedures for a lost card that are outlined in the gift card Terms & Conditions at www.disneygiftcard.com

Yep, hang on to those gift cards. I pay for my trips that way, too, to take advantage of the fuel perks. When I make a payment, I write the date on the card I used with a Sharpie just as backup proof, then keep all the used cards together in my trip file. I do the same thing in the parks, keeping the used cards with the receipts in the room safe.

Yes, this is true. Hold onto those cards and bring them w/ u on the trip just in case.
