Paul Pressler Question

I became a fan of WDW a few years ago, but only discovered the discussion boards a few months ago. My question is, why do so many people dislike Paul Pressler? I'm not sure what his job with Disney is. I'm not looking for major hate statements, I am just curious. Thanks!

Paul Pressler is the guy in charge of theme park operations. It seems that the deteriorating quality of the parks over the years is due to his decisions. Most people think that it is Eisner, but this guy is the one who really has caused the problems recently. This is only a little basic information, others can tell you more.

He lead the Disney Stores for a while and that was a huge success. Due to that Esiner saught a big reward and, lo-and-behold, Pressler was on top of the theme parks. Many have said that it was his cost cutting and his store ideas that made him think a theme park was like a big store, each section needed to meet a profit margin and have a huge themed store on the end.

Exactly. Pressler isn't a bad person, he was just put in the wrong department. He is more focused in stores and merchendise. The parks need a person who is focused on guest relations and walt's park ideals.

paul is the chairman of walt disney attractions.he was in disney consumer products (disney store)-alot of people dislike him.he isnt a bad guy just the wrong guy for the job.ive been in retail mgt for the last 11 years and know the retail sector pretty well.in his previous role with disney store he did very well.he has many years of retail experience and thus his ways have stuck with him.in retail u have 2 major goals-1-increase sales and 2-reduce costs.once those 2 issues have been complete then things like customer service and upkeep come into play.in theme parks its just the opposite.guest service and upkeep need to come first-thats the paradox presslers in now-again hes really a smart guy just needs to go back to consumer products

and I quote Paul Pressler.. "if it's good enough for Six Flags, it's good enough for us"

basically, if something isn't making money directly (like an attraction), it isn't worth keeping

I live near Six Flags in New Jersey and I wouldn't go there ever again.............. even for free.
It's such a rip off of Disney now and it's so dirty and the people that work there are total idiots and very rude.
It's more like a carnival atmosphere now there are so many pay for play prize games there now.
That worries me in AK I am afraid it will turn unto a Six Flags,,It's the first thing I thought of when I saw it.
It's just a bad experience all the way around.
But hey welcome to New Jersey right.

Sorry about the thread drift. :hammer:

Having met Paul, he's a great guy. His visions led to the overall strengthening of the Disney Store and the Disney brand. Since his departure from CP, TDS has done a complete 180 and has lost the initial focus that Paul gave it... bring a little bit of the magic of Disney to those that cannot make it WDW, DL, TDL or DLP. In fact, that is what the Disney Stores did. With the current TDS management, they have lost this focus and belief, and are starting to take the magic away from people by closing location after location. There were a ton of financial setbacks for the theme parks, lets not forget that. (Wide World of Sports anyone?) Paul is doing the best job that he can with the limited funding that he has received, but make no mistake, Disney is still a publicly held company, no matter how much we don't want to realize it, and beyond making the public happy, they have the additional responsibility to their stockholders as well.

Guys guys guys.... no hate messages. That was clear in the original post.

I feel Pressler is running the company into the ground because he doesnt understand what is important to the public in the themepark industry. Im not saying he is an evil person, just in the wrong place. Get someone in there with Walts vision and the glory days will return.

Ok...if you don't have something intelligent to say, keep your mouth shut.

Then what would you post?

REMEMBER KIDS... only Fievil can treat other people like this.

ANYONE else caught belittling or personaly attacking someone would be considered at TROLL or a FLAME. Both are grounds for removal from the boards.

Flaming - abusive, malicious, personal attacks. You will be banned if you persist in this behavior.

Trolls - deliberately antagonizing other forum users by posting 'flame bait' type messages are not welcome. You will be banned if you persist in this behavior.

Hey Guys, can we try and get a long here? I dont really want to have to close/remove the thread just because it is turning into a slanging match.

This thread has been really enlightening (sp?), since every time someone mentioned Pressler would be only to bash him. At least now we have heard some inside info on why he's making the parks go down hill.

I think that they need to get someone in there who loves Disney and is less interested in profits and more interested in Disney's magic - ie "will people want to do this over and over again?"
