Passport Question....

Hi Guys,

Totally random question to post on here I know but wondered if any of you have the answer as the UK passport offices are useless!

We are coming to Disney World in April this year from the 15th to the 29th from the UK.
My Husbands passport expires in July of this year. Now I know there used to have to be a specific amount of time remaining on your passport if you are entering the United States (think it used to be 3 months left?); wondering if anyone knows about this? I don't want to have to fork out £94 to get a new passport if we don't need to!

Thanks, Katie xxxxxx

Totally based upon what we heard, our understanding is that all passports must be valid 6 months beyond the last day of the trip. This apparently is worldwide and in retaliation for the U.S. creating problems by requiring such an extended validity. Thus, for travel in April, based upon this rumor, we would want our passports valid through October, into November. Again, just what we heard.

I had the same problem!

My passport was expired, but I wanted to visit WDW real bad. So I took a budget flight to Guadalajara, and then these nice men gave me a lift in their rusty pick-up all the way up to Tempe, Arizona - and all I had to do was carry a few bags of flour for them!
This made me LMAO

Was the driver of the pick up truck a guy named Coyote? LOL

If you don't have one valid 6 months after you may not be able to even board the plane. My wife's mother isn't American and while we asked her before her last trip to make sure her passport was valid during the time she would be here she didn't know about this bit of information, end result was the airline refused to let her board because the passport expired a month after her expected return.. So oddly enough some airlines check the actual dates on the passport.

Did the bags of flour smell like skunky pine needles?

Why yes, now that you mention it, it did smell a bit funny. I first noticed when I used the flour to bake pancakes for us. I thought I was just a really good cook, Antonio ecstatically ran up some mountain ridge yelling he could fly, and our driver Carlos Coyote just sorta ran off into the desert, howling at the moon. Never saw either again, really.

I am so glad that I looked at your post. I thought that I had researched this question (see attached link: http://www.immihelp.com/visas/six-months-passport-validity-rule-visitors.html). It clearly states (in the first paragraph) " ....Citizens of the countries listed below (and the U.K. is listed) are exempt from the six-month rule and need only have a passport valid for their intended period of stay." I think I'll contact my tour operator just to be on the safe side. Infuriatingly if she needs to have 6-months on her passport on return to the UK she'll need a new ESTA too!

The website of the Unites States Deprtment of State seems to disagree. If you do not have the six months of validity then you need to obtain a visa for entry.
