Party Season 2021

I think Disney is (rightfully) very scared about getting bad PR from any sort of crowding from Fireworks.

I think it's understandable that Disney would be more gunshy than their peers simply because they are the big name and draw the most media attention. They also have the (deserved) rep of catering more towards children and families than other theme parks and kids can't be vaccinated at this time.

That said, I really think bringing back fireworks is a pretty low risk thing for them. Will there be crowds? Yes, but being outdoors mitigates a lot of the risk. And the reality with children is that their risk from serious illness from COVID-19 is exceedingly small. With all the push to get children back to in person school everywhere, it would seem hypocritical to suggest that being outdoors watching fireworks would pose a significant risk to them.

Sadly, the problem with fireworks is maintaining distancing between guests. Plenty of guests now don’t consistently maintain 6ft in queues, I can’t imagine they’d be any better for a fireworks show. If that drops to 3ft, the odds are better.

Trip planning for October, and I still don't see MNSSHP happening. At least not as we knew it. None of the components of the party (parades, fireworks, castle stage show and meet n greets) have resumed and starting most of them in about 5 months seems unlikely.

But Disney successfully got people to pay $75 a head for "Taste of DCA", so I think they'll try that instead with a similar price.

Something like "Mickey's Taste of Trick or Treat" that would include:
- $25 food and beverage card (instead of handing out candy)
- Ride overlays and the standard Halloween decor and music
- Chance to dress up
+ the socially distanced meet and greets and cavalcades from last year, but only during party hours

Hopefully we hear something by May in regards to the seasonal events and some entertainment returning. Not expecting anything much sooner, mostly since vaccines will just be starting to be available to everyone and it’s going to take awhile for most to get a appointment and such, including CMs.

All for the low, low price of $189.99/guest! Because profits and whatnot.

Why not do a holiday themed Disney “after hours” event?
It checks off the following boxes:
1. Makes money by selling the park twice daily
2. Lower capacity
3. No expensive fireworks and shows.
4. Gives them an excuse for not having to keep the park open to day guests past 6.

That is an option. The big challenge right now is there is an expectation that there be special fireworks in the MK for the 50th. Whether that happens is unclear, but it is expected.

From what you have been hearing, are they planning on making final decisions around June? Logical timeframe since vaccine numbers from all adults should start rolling in by then. I don’t think there will be solid numbers until June due to all the second doses.

Well, they can wait until then to make a final call, certainly. They are continuing to work on HarmoniUs because they want it ready when they pick a date. With news that those with just 1 dose of Pfizer or Moderna have 80% protection against all COVID-19 infection (including asymptomatic), we will have 50% of us with strong immunity (more if we assume about 1/3 of the remainder have some immunity from infection) by 5/9.

They should get out their notebooks and Mickey Mouse pencils and head to USO one night then.
