Trip Report Part III - as in Caballeros (plus 2)

My first trip report - we'll see how this goes...

We are driving up from Fort Lauderdale, about 3 to 3 1/2 hours, right...NOW.

We were supposed to leave tomorrow morning, but decided a few days ago to get a jump on things today. Only problem was our doggy-sitter (booked for Monday) had other plans and could not come today, so we wanted to wait until late enough that it would be OK to leave our precious pup overnight. I hate leaving this fuzzy face!!

That's about 58 pounds of Shep/Chow mix we call Kylie. I love this dog too much and miss her every day of these trips! (Kylie will be 6 next month.)

Almost my turn to drive - not gonna take a pic of us now looking a little frumpy - so here's a shot of us at a random local bar. You probably should get used to bar pics.

That's Brian on the left and me on the right. We're heading up for our 8 year wedding anniversary on Tuesday the 8th. Yes, we were married on 9/8/7 - very easy to remember!

Hoping to arrive just in time to get our TiW card at DTD and hit Raglan Road. (Never been.) Staying off property tonight as it will be all about getting right to sleep and hoping for that early check-in text so we can avoid the separate check-in bldg at CBR! Fingers crossed.

Well, we moved from I-95 to the FL Turnpike a few minutes back, and that was my cue to take the wheel, so I'd better do that or risk a dirty look LOL.

I miss my puppy!

We were supposed to get some Xmas gifts for the niece and nephews, and really did try, but was not crazy about much on Main Street. I knew I should have picked up other things as I'd come across them at other parks. Oh well, that's what the internet is for lol.

And we were a little nervous about the car, getting stuck on the highway, getting home to the puppy, etc. so we left around 3 or so and got home around 6:30.

Time to book January! Think it's going to be CBR. No availability with DVC.

Then it's all about saving up for 2017.

Very impressed with the nighttime pix of the Osborne Lights--the clarity was outstanding in those photos! Glad you two got to see and enjoy that wonderful holiday display; wish I could go. Oh well, at least we have some great members on this forum who share their good times with the rest of us. :) Oh, the Jingle Cruise looked fun, too! P.S.: The tree ornament also doubled as a hair ornament?! ;) :p You guys are funny!

January is booked - we went low-key, our first Value resort together. (I stayed at All-Star Music when it first opened and didn't like it much.) Booked Pop Century, I understand it's a little better. Requested 70's lake view. We'll see how it goes! Going January 10, 11, 12, and home on the afternoon/evening of the 13th. Since the 10th is a Sunday and we have weekday-only passes, we'll drive up at our own pace, explore the resort and the Art of Animation nearby, and probably spend some real time at Disney Springs for the first time without feeling like I was wasting precious theme park time, since we can't get in to the theme parks!!

This is an experiment - it's a significant savings over the moderates, so we may throw it into the mix to save money sometimes without staying off property. (Of course, this only works when we don't bring the puppy.)

Booked thru Orbitz for the first time also. Saved 15% and also got back over $7 in "Orbitz bucks" to use towards the next booking. Seems like a good deal. I was easily able to put the res number from the Orbitz email into MDE, and proceed with the usual magic band customization (sent to the correct address) and early check-in. Hopefully there are no issues with that.

I think this time we need to drink more. May even create a new thread. Here's to meeting new bartenders at new resort pool bars!! LOL.

It all sounds good to me, especially the last part! :D

Thanks for the note about Walt Before Mickey. I've been reading a lot of historical Disney books, and this movie sounds great! I'll definitely be checking it out before our next trip.

Finally got to see this on PPV last night. (DirecTV is running a special - rent 4 movies, get $10 back.)

We enjoyed it very much - kind of depressing, and a few really corny parts that have me wondering if they were true or just made up for the movie, but I love the whole historical/backstory stuff. I had heard the one-sentence summary of what happened with Oswald the Rabbit, but it was a whole different thing to see it play out over 20 minutes of a movie. Equally interesting were the little notes at the end a la what happened to the other main people in the film.

He did have a rough start, though.
