Parking to get to the Boardwalk

Does the Boardwalk (not the hotel but the actual Boardwalk) have its own parking area, or do you still go to the hotel's security gate and just tell them you want to go to the Boardwalk and they will let you in?

I know sometimes they don't want you parking in the hotel lot unless you are a resort guest or dining, so that is why I ask if there is separate parking for those who just want to visit the Boardwalk but are not guests of the hotel and that don't have dining reservations.

Thanks!

Same parking lots, use self parking on the right side as the lot is larger and easier to find a spot.

We've always gone through the gate and self-parked to the left. Most people go into the one on the left and stop at the first parking space they see. If you go to the end, near the waterway, you can actually proceed further up...near to the villas...and park.

If you go right past the entrance, instead of turning into the check-in area, take a right at the next light. There is a self-parking area there. Always plenty of spots. Just walk across the street, past the convention area and bus stop and you will be there!

Actually the parking lot you are referring to is meant for guests staying at the BWI & BWV. For those going to eat/look around should be parking in the self parking lot to the left of the guard shack, which is behind the valet lot.

My mistake, thank you for clarifying. We stayed there last summer and Christmas and seem to have missed that.

I don't know why this news (or rumor) isn't making more of a splash. I'm not sure where to post it, but, on the Orlando Theme Park News, they're claiming that:

What is it?

I'm sure a lot of Boardwalk parkers are Epcot theme park guests. They just simply tell the guard that their going to Boardwalk and they can proceed. Yea, the parking adjacent to the convenstion center and bus stop should only be for checked in guests but there's people, myself included, that park there for Boardwalk visits.

During more busy times of the year the Boardwalk will have a Cast Member sitting outside the entrance to that self parking lot checking to make sure you are staying at the Inn or Villas before allowing you to park there. I personally saw them doing that this past December because they checked to see if I had a BWI parking pass along with looking at my KTTW card and MagicBand to match the name on the parking pass.

That is true, and I got denied entry to Boardwalk even though I said I'm there to eat at ESPN, and was told to park at DTD and take the motorcoach. This was before the parking garage construction.

I'm surprised they never told you to park behind the Hess station. If the Boardwalk is expected to be very busy during times like that is where they will tell people to park who are planning to eat there.

So, I ended up going to the Boardwalk itself via the BWI entrance. Security at the gate was very nice...told me that if I was there so visit the length of the Boardwalk I'd be better off parking at Swan or Dolphin, but said if I was there to see the shops/restaurants section of it to park in the BWI lot, which I did.

It was slightly confusing as he told me to self-park in the lot to the left even though there are signs for self-parking to the right, but those are likely just the self-parking lots for hotel guests, so I did go into the left lot. From there, we made a beeline to the Boardwalk Bakery to enjoy in some tasty goodness and then wonder around the Boardwalk itself. It was a nice trip.

Thanks to all for the input!
