Parking Fees at Theme Parks for On-site Guests?

Hi Y'all again,

I did a quick search for this "Parking" question but didn't find anyhting so bare with me if this has been threaded to death!!

I read in the Frommers WDW 2004 Guidebook that Disney charges $7 for Theme Park parking, which raised an interesting question for me:

Do on-site guests (PORS) who bring a car (rental) and drive it to the Theme Parks (instead of taking WDW transport) pay for parking?? Or do you get a parking card for free parking?? or what happens??

One of the reasons we wanted to rent a car was just so that we could minimize waiting bus times at theme parks.

Not that $7 will break us but $35 for the week could go to a Character Breakfast for the kids!

thanks for your thoughts...

I've found that using the buses to the parks is usally better than driving, but using a car to other resorts and Downtown Disney is a must. It can be a real pain to resort hop by bus 'cos you have to use the parks as exchange points, and after hours the only exchange point is Downtown Disney.

And DD is just a pain to get to and return from in any short amount of time by Disney bus. I've had countless times hitting myself on the head, waiting for a bus FOREVER at DD, and I swear I'll never do that again.

Have fun!

That's a good point. I doubt you save any time at the parks by driving, especially Magic Kingdom. Now the Mini-golf an dDowntown Disney you probably will benefit from driving. Also meeting resort PS times will benefit from driving.

We too use Disney transportation to/from the parks, but drive to DD, mini golf & the Boardwalk areas. Its just easier for us with the kids. We usually stay at the WL and will take the boat to the Contemporary for Chef Mickey's or the Concourse Steakhouse since they share a boat.

Just leave your parking pass on the dashboard & you will be waved through the parking lot booth.

I just want to echo what everyone else has said. Taking the bus to the parks isn't that bad.

You say you have kids. You don't say how old they are, but they might not want to walk from the parking lots to the gate.

Taking your car means unloading the car, loading in and out of trams, then into parks.

Buses mean loading and unloading from the bus, closer to the gates without trams.

It's just something to think about.

This summer we drove to MK and I regretted it the rest of the trip. It had been a couple of years since I had been and forgot that the buses drop off right in front of the entrance. So we waited with the throngs of people at the TTC and I was quite irritated with myself by the time I passed thru the gates at MK. As far as PS's go, definately drive to the resort as you get to park, usually, right in front of the building.
