I'm sorry, but who are you to decide what is "out of control" for someone? I understand that you don't "need" it, but maybe others enjoy having their device with them and it enhances their vacation. Also, most phones are excellent cameras, so I will not be leaving mine in the room.

I play a geolocation game that has me capture virtual markers within the parks and to do that I need my phone. I am able to play my game while touring and enjoying the parks. Double the fun for me.
Let's see.

Since it's my opinion, I decide what's out of control....and yes, I still think it is.

I'm sure people do enjoy having their device. They make it quite abundantly clear how much they are enjoying by doing a ton of annoying things with them. (See below)

Maybe you do a great job handling your phone, but alas, many, many guests do not. Let me count the ways it's out of control and thus helped form my opinion:
  • Constant buzzing, beeping, and custom text alerts during meals/rides/waiting in line.
  • Yelling on the phone while in close quarters (Lines, common areas)
  • Constantly looking at the phone during shows/dark rides, illuminating their entire seat and distracting others
  • Allowing the phone to ring, buzz, and beep during American Adventure, Hall of Presidents
  • Using the flash on the phone while taking pictures on dark rides
  • Using the phone for pictures on dark rides at all with a BRIGHT screen
  • Looking down at the phone while walking in traffic and running into me
  • Dropping phones and causing ride stoppages. This happened to me twice on Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror.
Overall, it's like alcohol in the parks, except more people don't understand phone etiquette. Some people can handle phones, but many people abuse cell phones and are straight up rude and annoying because of the above.

I almost wish it didn't exist. People are out of control with cell phones.

When I'm at Disney, I ALWAYS leave my phone in the room. I figure, why look at stock portfolios, text, and post to Facebook while I'm trying to have fun? Everything I need is right there.

It helps somewhat to have a phone if you're trying to keep your Fast Pass schedule and dining reservations straight, but I write them down for the day on a Post-It and I'm good.

I get what you are saying. I'm not one to use my phone on vacation. However, it doesn't bother me when other people do. Whatever makes you happy.

The one thing I will say is that Disney is really urging people to use online services. So, in order to do this, they really have to provide internet of some sort.

I have my phone for pictures.. it has a better camera than the last point and shoot camera I bought.. the thing that bugs me is the people that use their iPads to take pictures.. or even worse, using them to video a parade or show..
