Park Maps

Of course after the 100 Years of Magic the park maps were changed, somewhat, anyways I noticed a couple of things on the MK and Epcot maps. On the Epcot one, the big Epcot sign over SE is not there, maybe a sign of things to come? I dont know if I didn't see it before it just wasnt there but on the map of MK I got yesterday included the expanded Emporium.

Yep, you're right, the expanded emporium wasn't on the 100YOM maps, so that's new. Glad to see them keep the maps updated.

No sign on SE? Interesting. Considering it was there on the 100YOM maps, maybe they are going to remove it. I know that would make a few here happy. I actually like the sign, especially at night. For me, it brings a certain magical touch to Epcot. Yet, I can see why some consider it tacky or taking away from the granduer of SE. Of course, this may mean the sign has to go for the rumored Time Racers. :lookaroun

On the map I have, the new Figment ride is still not listed on the map. They are prob waiting for MS to open, so they can make all new maps. (This map is from Dec. 2002) It may have changed.

Yeah and don't they update each map every week or so? Like one week the map will say April 1-7 and then the next week it will be updated to say April 8-14. So maybe they'll add the Epcot sign back. I really like it, it looks cool!

Unfortunately, they don't update the maps weekly anymore. Maps are used for an extended period of time, and paper inserts with weekly info are inserted to save on costs of the expensive color maps.

Time Racers was/is a rumored replacement for SE as part of Project Gemini (PG). Some think PG is going to happen, others don't think so. (But this was the same case with Everest for AK until it was confirmed by Eisner).

If you do a search on these boards for Project Gemini, you will find threads about this. In short, it would replace what is in SE and may actually start outside of the sphere. No one knows what the ride will be like for sure, though. A Jim Hill article on PG said one major difference, if it happens, is that we wouldn't be allowed up one side of SE to enter the park anymore. I'm pretty sure it was the side the sign was on. So maybe, the sign has to go in order to do what they want to do. Of course, this is all just a guess on my part. Sorry for the confusion

Maybe they don't print these maps each week anymore because it is much easier and less harmful to the environment to throw away/ recycle the paper inserts when they become outdated after each week then the colored, "shiny" maps. Of course, cost was probably a driving factor too
