Park Contraband

So DW is really into meeting the characters, she always wears a shirt or has one packed in our camera bag for a character that she wants to meet and get her picture taken with. I have what I think is a great idea, we have this really tiny frying pan (its for making a single size cookie to put ice cream on) and we have never used it. I was thinking of taking it and getting it autographed by Rapunzel, but I am not sure if they would let us into the park with it. I know security doesn't always check bags over that thorough, and please don't turn this into a thread about safety and security. I am just wondering if anyone has ever had something that they were told they couldn't bring into the parks? GO!

Here's the official list of none-permitted things -
  • You may not bring the following types of items into the theme parks:
    • Wagons
    • Skateboards
    • Scooters
    • Inline skates
    • Shoes with built-in wheels
    • Strollers larger than 36" x 52" (92 x 132 cm)
    • Suitcases, coolers or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" (61 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) high. Coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations.
    • Any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV, wheelchair or stroller
    • Wheeled mobility devices with less than 3 wheels and devices that cannot maintain stability and balance when stopped, unpowered or unoccupied. Training wheels or similar modifications are not permitted.
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Folding chairs
  • Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
  • Pets (unless they are service animals)
  • Balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted in Disney's Animal Kingdom Park for the safety of our animals
  • Tripod stands or monopod stands that cannot fit inside a standard backpack
Additional items may also not be permitted inside the theme parks. Please use your best judgment and do not bring anything that may be potentially harmful or disruptive.

So, it all depends on whether or not a frying pan is considered harmful or disruptive or a weapon. I think you'll be OK, especially if it is a small frying pan, but I'm not sure.

You should be fine with it. Security is looking for alcohol, glass, and weapons for the most part. If they question is just tell them the truth. The majority of Disney security seems to be made up of fairly hard core Disney fans. I'll wager that 90% of them would get it and will probably be a tad upset that they did not think of it themselves.

Yeah, but if they've seen Tangled a ton of times (likely since they are CMs) they'll know the devastating effects of a frying pan. Plus, the frying pan attack is pretty powerful if you've ever played SotMK. Next thing you know, @lunchbox1175 will be waving their frying pan around and demanding unlimited TTA rides or something and it will be on your head.

Remember the carnage brought about by the salad tongs brigade in DHS?

Closest thing you could do is this...Either go to Disney on Ice and get the Sound Effect Frying pan (like the one I own here) that is Made of foam and when you tap objects with it. It will make a "clanging noise" (Can you believe that an Ice show would sell something this strangley awesome?)

OR......

Go to Toys R Us buy a plastic kitchenware set that has a frying pan..Better safe than sorry..

Thought you would enjoy a silly story of the oddest thing I ever brought into the MK:

A few years ago we were going to have dinner at AP at the WL before heading to the MK for Spectro (sigh) and Wishes, and planned on sitting in the lobby for a while to soak up some atmoshere, since it was decorated for Christmas.

Being rather frugal, and having brought our own bottled beer to fill the hotel room fridge, we decided to bring a couple of beers with us to enjoy in the lobby. Unfortunately, this batch of beer had some difficult to remove bottle caps, and we had been using the bottle opener on the hotel-supplied corkscrew to open them. Without thinking twice, I wrapped the corkscrew in a paper towel, and tossed it in my purse along with the beer.

Uh, then afterwards, we were heading straight to the MK, me with a corkscrew in my purse.

We get to the bag-checker security table, and the checker looked into my purse, saw the corkscrew, and said, "I don't even want to know....." and passed us through

They didn't glance in my bag last trip. I forgot to unload my edc pouch I always have on normal days:assorted knives, flashlight, batteries, lighter, paracor, & duct tape
I was surprised to reach in and find it....I bet you could get away with one of those cookie sized frying pans!

I second the recommendation to look for a plastic toy frying pan. That real one, no matter how small, is going to feel full-sized by the end of the day.

My DD is really big into cosplay and her latest is Flynn Ryder. She wanted one of my skillets to use as a prop at a con. I warned her that it would get very heavy by the end of the day, and convinced her to get a toy one. We found a set of toy pans, kept the one we wanted and spray painted it flat black, and gave the rest of the set to my niece. The spray-painted one looked great, very realistic.

DD now lives in Japan - she took this cosplay outfit with her along with the plastic pan and wore it to Tokyo Disney for Halloween.

This past October we visited during MNSSHP and the family in front of us, the little daughter was dressed as Rapunzel and had a small frying pan for her to sign. I am fairly certain it was a plastic toy one, but a small frying pan, none the less. Rapunzel (and Flynn - princes at MNSSHP) had a great time playing with the little girl, who was a little shy at first, but then opened up a bit.

Now, it did appear to be a toy (I didn't get hit with it, so I can't be sure), but she was carrying and waving it around the whole time in line (and I expect in the park the rest of the night, likely).

I need to post a picture of it, its really not heavy at all, and actually fits in a pouch in our camera bag that is a mini back pack.
