Has anyone here done the Parasailing they offer from the Contemporary? My 10 year old son & I are planning to do it when we go in December. I was just curious to know what any of you thought of the experience. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.:sohappy:

Yer me and my dad did it when we went in 2006, we had to wait awhile for the wind and the rain to stop. But when we got up we both really enjoyed it ,espeicially looking over MK and other such disney areas! Hope this helps you.

My sister and I flew tandem in July of 2000 for about $60 a person. It was a very neat experience. It was a morning flight specifically b/c usually the weather is best at this point in the day.

After we arrived to check-in, my sister and I (17 and 16 in 2000) were escorted to the boat and both of our parents were able to ride with us on the boat. There was another family of three that rode with us.

They strapped my sister and I into the harnesses and we took off from the back of the boat. We paid for the slightly higher/longer flight. I was surprised at how smooth the ride was. At first I was dissappointed b/c I expected parasailing to be thrilling, fast moving, and scary!! But I was wrong, and as soon as I realized what parasailing entailed, it was a lot of fun. It isn't scary, but rather it appears to be a slow moving gentle ride. I wnated dips and dunks in the lake, but that had never happened.

It was a great morning on Bay Lake parasailing, and I do plan to do it again. For a great photo op, have someone form your party in the boat take a picture looking up towards you with the Contemp. in the background as a reference point. It's the neatest picture to be that much higher above that Resort. Also, I had a camera on me that I used way up top.

Overall, parasailing was a lot of fun and I never once felt it was outrageously overpriced for the experience that we got. My sister and I enoyed it, and my parents had a fun time in the boat watching us. The Sammy Duvel staff were very friendly, and funny too.

Enjoy your trip.

This sounds very cool. Does it need to be booked 45 years in advance like a decent restaurant, or is it something I could do in May? Anybody have any details about how I could arrange it?

My friend went parasailing one time about three years ago in disney. He told me it was a fun experience but you get the same effect on Soarin in Epcot. It wasn't really worth the money.

yes but soarin doesn't give you the view of WDW that you get and no matter how fun Soarin is its still just a simulator and I'll take a real life experience over a simulator anyday.

We went parasailing from the Contemporary last August. First flight: wife/11 year old son, Second flight: wife/7 year old son, Last flight: me/9 year old son. All but the 9 year old thought it was great to "fly" over Bay Lake. The views of the WDW resort area were really cool.

A couple of times a year, something goes wrong. Our last flight (me, 9 year old) was one of those times. The machine that was reeling us in broke about halfway into our descent. The boat skipper did what he could to ease our fall, and it worked. We entered Bay Lake so gently that my raised hand (which was holding our video camera) did not get wet. A rescue boat retrieved us from the water within a minute. We were both wearing life vests, of course, so bobbing in the warm water waiting for the rescue wasn't really frightening. They gave us free t-shirts as compensation for dunking us. It was actually a lot of fun, and I got great video footage!

We did this in December as part of my daughter's birthday celebration. It was great(although, my weak stomach had a little trouble). You really can see everything up there. My girls absolutely loved it. See if you can get the smiley face chute, it is great for pictures.

SteveUK-call Sammy Duval's at the Contemp. I bet you will be fine getting a reservation. Here's a pic from our trip.

My Dad & I did this at the Contemporary over New Years holiday. We called about 30-60 mins before and asked if they had any openings and he said we can take you now, so we went on!! I thought it was going to be jerky lifting off but it wasn't at all - and you don't get wet. I wish I would've taken a camera up there with me, it's a great view. Maybe you should take a disposable camera incase you drop a nice digital one in the water? That would be my only concern... Have fun!
