Twenty years ago....

Roy Disney quit the Board of Directors
Horizons opened at EPCOT
The Chairman of the Board was separated from the CEO
The company faced hostile takeover bids
The Animation Department was in shambles

Twenty years later....

Roy Disney quits the Board of Directors (again)
Mission: Space opens where Hozizons once stood
The Chairman of the Board is seperated from the CEO
The company is facing hostile takeover bids from Comcast
The Animation Department is in shambles

We can learn from history. Can anyone do some research for me and find the events that happened in 1984, which lead to the eventual rise of Michael Eisner's management team?

By the way, 1984 is a great book.

Yeah... I really liked it, too

I've found that Orwell's other book, Animal Farm, can be used to describe a few of the different things going on in Disney right now... I described Snowball as Roy, with Napoleon (Eisner) blaming everything on him... But more importantly, everything that happens- Pixar (Windmill), Comcast (Plans for other farms taking over)- is blamed on him by Eisner, and the people (or farm animals) are all giving him credit...

If that makes any sense...

I plan to write a more complete comparison between the two topics...

Anyways... I just thought I'd throw that in, as it kinda related to both the book and the year comparisons...

2004: the Tigers...oh, wait, never mind

Hey it could happen! Especially with the new guy they just got. My brother's a HUGE baseball guy and has suddenly become VERY interested in the Tigers. He loves their new catcher and followed him in the World Series. If this pre-season is any sign of things to come, you never know.

Oh yeah and I was born in 1984 too

There were various attempts at takeover bids (hmm, Comcast?...). When all was settled, Ron Miller was asked to resign, and Eisner & Wells stepped in and did some good. It would seem like we've repeated most of the '84 events, so I guess it's time for Eisner to get out.
