Checked in last night at the Yacht club, and suitably impressed. However, locked in the next three days at a conference, though plotting my escape.

I'm not a doctor, but I read about them :bookworm:. You must stay away from the conference. You wouldn't want to ruin anyone else's time there so you better stay away from them for a few days - just to make sure you're not contagious :hungover:. You never know how long these things incubate... ;) You need immediate pixie dust, laughter & Dole Whip Floats. STAT :)

I know one particular company will be at the Yacht Club soon.... they do go to the parks, but I believe it is some sort of "reward" for being a good sales agent for the company.;)

My husband did a conference at the Grand back in January. They only did half days though, they started at 8 and were done by 11-11:30 every day. Get away as soon as you can!!! And I do hope they provide you with Mickey waffles.

I don't mean to derail but why is WDW so big for conferences but you don't get to go to parks? What is the appeal vs Vegas or anywhere?

Not sure, but maybe WDW is chosen for conferences to encourage either pre or post park visits and also to encourage spouse and kids to tag along. Also not a bad location overall. It does seem cruel to have spouse and kids at park come back in the evening and recount how much fun they had while conference-attendee was stuck in conference room all day. Probably better attended too as location is its own draw.

I never understood conferences in Vegas or Orlando. You know attendees are just signing in and leaving or skipping out early. They should hold important conferences in places like Fargo in January, then you know the attendees will be there listening and learning as there's nothing else to do. :)

My company has offices all around the country. Almost every city has a direct flight to Orlando or Vegas, and flights are generally cheaper since so many people fly there. Therefore our company has its annual training in Orlando for travel convenience and price.

It is because nobody would ever attend your conference you are holding in Fargo in January. Most well-organized conferences are aware of the distractions the location has to offer, and will provide opportunity to experience the sights and sounds - sometimes even as part of the conference itself, other times by offering sessions that each group can attend at separate times. I have attended several conferences at desirable locations that resulted in high attendance, high participation, and have included special social functions.

I think a conference group held at Disney was able to organize a ride Spaceship earth with the lights on, but I cannot confirm that.

As this conference is an educational conference as much as a networking, it's an attendees benefit to attend all the sessions. All of my attendees are expected to take notes and write up their takeaways when we are back. IMO the Yacht club has done a fine job, the conference space is adequate, the food has been decent, and we had an evening session in Epcot last night.

The conference organisers see high attendance at DisneyWorld conferences as people see it as a nice trip where they can bring a spouse and go for dinner after the conference, as well as using the final afternoon (or extending the trip from their own pocket) for park time.

We did it 10 years ago, my husband was presenting at conference at the Hilton next to DTD. I came along, spent some days on my own in the parks and some time with him and his colleagues and then we had a 10 day holiday after the conference. The following year he presented in Montreal and I let him go on his own (not really same weather as FL!) ;-)

I know for some conferences that I have attended at WDW, we have been given tickets, but the tickets don't allow park entrance during conference time, they only work when events are not in session.

Of course, nothing would stop you from buying your own tickets.

The conference offered discounted tickets, including after 3 pm tickets. Professionally, it would be suicide to blow off a day of a conference for the parks, especially in this case, when the fee was $1500 to attend.

Depending on the company or industry producing the convention, it's also not uncommon for attendees to bring their families if it's a family friendly location, followed by an actual vacation (or at least the weekend) to hit the parks as a family.
