Pandora vs. Harry Potter

HP is hands down better than Pandora IMO. Pandora looks great, but that’s about it. There isn’t much outside of looking around to do there. Diagon has street shows, tons of shops, interactive wands, Knockturn Alley, and Forbidden Journey is far better than FOP.

Pandora is a start, but SWL will be the all immersive comparable and over take of HPL.

Of course it will. Ten years later, great source material and given the proper time and budget, with many of the same creators, designers and artists that created Hogsmeade and Forbidden Journey.

I was with you until the last 7 words.

The plants and animals in Pandora are very plastic looking. That is an odd choice to try to go all out and make something so immersive, then make something so fake looking to exist in the land. WWOHP is better, when not considering the attractions it is better by a mile. When you throw the attractions into the mix it is closer but still potter wins.

By 2020 The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be a significantly larger experience than Pandora. Right now they are adding the 3rd state of the art E Ticket with the Forbidden Forest Coaster. And I believe the 4th E Ticket (The Ministry of Magic) will start construction in Jan. The MoM may have a D Ticket also. So the WWoHP will be 4 E Tickets, 1-2 D Tickets, 1 C Tickets, 4 shows, 2 restaurants, 2 interactive experiences, 1 candy shop, 1 ice cream shop and 9 themed merchandise shops.

I feel that Harry Potter has its own fan base, I mean I'm a huge fan. I watched back in '07 when they announced the project and was there on opening day waiting in that incredibly long line as I do for anything big because I still think thats fun. I'm a bit biased because I live, breathe, love, and work for Disney. But I can agree Pandora is no Potter two attractions seem to me too little for something that took 6 years to construct. I'm sorry I worked on the project while I was completing my internship and most if not the majority of imagineers felt that it was too little too expensive for what we finished with. I mean don't get me wrong the detail is gorgeous and it took painstaking work, but the average tourist does not give two cents about the experience, sight, or smell, they are paying to ride. This is where it becomes interesting, Star Wars has a much larger fan base than Harry Potter. It's older, more possibilities (it is a friggin galaxy far far away), and will possibly be the thing that Universal Creative is freaking out about right about now. For sheer size it's almost double what Pandora is, with plenty more space to build. Unlike Potter will include a very immersive and interactive hotel. I mean if at anything Pandora is already looking like the Dinos at Dinoland, it won't be as big of a draw as Star Wars will be. If at anything what we should be really worried about is whether or not you will want to vacation at Uni or Disney if and when Uni build's it's Third, or rumored fourth park. I think in terms of sheer size and competition Universal is 30-40 years late to the whole game that Disney World was built upon. But they for sure will be a major contender next decade as they have been for the 7 of this one. But this is my personal opinion and does not reflect the vision that my company has for the future. If at all I am excited to see what comes from the 50th anniversary.

But if SWL opens and no one can enter because the bloggers wont leave... is it really open? I Cannot wait for galaxys edge, like it hurts me to wait, but I just dont see this land being accessible for a very long time, like years. Its disney's fault for stalling on other projects though.

Same here. It's painful that it is still 2 years away! But I'm honestly not worried about the crowds as I will just be standing there, squished like cattle waiting for the slaughter, mooing er I mean, weeping (tears of joy) with all my fellow Star Wars geeks that we now have an actual real life Star Wars planet to visit. Eight hour lines or not, I'll be there as much as I possibly can.

Pandora is boring.

I'd say that as a whole, HP is better than giant Blue Hippieland. I think FOP is the best ride, but for the sizing, foot traffic flow, food, and ability to fit the sizing of the crowds HP wins hands down.

My fear is the reactionary mode Disney is in right now. It's like sports when the opponent pressures the other team it's forces them to not play their game and make mistakes. They usually lose.

J.K. Rowling is a political nitwit and overrated writer, but Universal's Potter areas are awesome. Uni's artisans brought her world to life in a way her tepid writing never could. So there's that.

I haven't visited Pandora, but I wonder if the area really lives up to the movie's eye candy. Which is the only thing about the movie that was remotely appealing IMO.

While I am really not a fan of either movie, HP seems "real" and Pandora is "fake". Given the choice of spending an hour on a bench in those lands, I would take HP. I think after 10 minutes of looking at fake moss, fake plants, and fake lighting, I would be bored. The comparison to splash mountain is good, Pandora is Sci Fi Splash Mt Land.

I waited a few years to go to the Harry Potter land at Universal. While it is beautifully themed, we were there on a warm day and we all felt left down. It was so crowded and everything felt so small. The rides were fine (though most are rebadged) but we just didn't love it as much as we thought we would. So I went into Pandora with low expectations. That and I hate the movie. It was really well done and what I liked the most was how easy it was to get around and not feel like people are on top of you.

I cannot say one is better than the other really. They are different. If I could make a change to Universal would be to make everything just a little easier to navigate. If I could change Pandora, I'd suggest adding another ride or two.

While I appreciate the comparison, I don't think it's exactly fair. HP is a magical, fantasy world built around magical creatures and magic wands in cities similar to our own. Obviously, there will be more shops and buildings that fit seamlessly into the world. Pandora is going for magical, but a much more realistic and natural portrayal of what the world of Pandora represents. That is, appreciating the beauty and nature of the land in Avatar, and much less on construction, buildings and stores.

I expect SWL to be more on par with HP in terms of the "city" feel to it, which may lead to a better comparison of the worlds overall.
