[QUOTE="mergatroid, post: 7695203, member: 72941""Who thinks looking a pretend movie characters is exciting"

Depends entirely on the movie. In this case it's a movie full of characters no one cares about or remembers the names of. The ride looks relaxing, I'll give it that. Okay, I'm sounding more cynical than I mean to. At least some real talent and effort has gone into creating these attractions.

Well I guess it depends on what people are looking for in a ride. If it's true that "it's a movie full of characters no one cares about or remembers the names of" then nobody will be going on the attraction looking forward to seeing those characters? ;)

I thought about that too. But those rides are actually exciting. From what I gather River is a combination of video screens. With the exception of the navi does anything else in there move?

Since when was WDW a place where everything was exciting?
Or meant to be exciting?
It's always offered a wide array of attractions.

Here is a video of the full Navi river ride: The ride is very high tech and if people say "It's boring" then maybe you should try to make something as high tech as this. Also this is a river ride not pirates of the caribbean or something...

It is doing what it was designed to do and does it amazingly well. DAK is a different sort of theme park and that is reflected in what it offers. I agree with you, adding standard thrills and a storyline would have made the experience less than what it is.

Agreed. However, anyone that will stand in line for more than 20 minutes to look at some plants that light up is crazy. Shaman or not, it is not worth the wait

Remember, Marc Davis found the original version of the Jungle Cruise boring and convinced Walt to add humor to it. The JC was originally a straightforward, serious ride through plastic animals, and even in the 50s, Guests saw straight through it. Marc improved it considerably.

I'm not saying to add jokes to this, but I am pointing out that it's okay to be critical of an attraction if it honestly needs to be improved.

The river ride will need to be improved

There are some small helicopter lizards suspended from the ceiling that spin around, and some of the plants are gimmicked to look like the projections are moving them, but nothing substantial, no.
There is one incredible animatronic that...sings weirdly.

Were intertwined tails out of the question? ;)

Yes
River Journey could have been alot more. The family and I watched Avatar for the first time on Saturday. After watching that movie, I am confused how they couldn't have made a Splash Mountain level boat ride.

They totally "Mine Trained" this

"Mine Training" should be used for imagineers in the same manner the word "Clemsoning" was used pre-2016

I think there is a fairly high chance that every ride that ever existed or will exist gets some negative guest feedback.

Perhaps I should clarify. I think that there is a high chance that a significant number of guests, after waiting a very long time for a relatively brief ride largely bereft of story, excitement, or humor that pretty much reproduces the environment found throughout the rest of the land, give negative feedback. These reactions will likely be compounded by the high expectations set by a very heavily promoted land based on an action film IP that has been under construction for a long time. I think there is a high chance the number of guests that give such feedback will be significant enough when compared to those that give negative feedback on other rides at WDW that Disney feels compelled to make changes to the attraction.

I, personally, am looking forward to the ride. However, I have a distinct bias in favor of dark rides and anticipate enjoying the attraction despite what I perceive to be flawed design choices.

While I haven't been to Pandora yet, it does seem that they "Mine Trained" Navi River Journey. It could have been so much more.

I haven't seen it in person, and I am certain that it is far more impressive in the flesh.
It certainly looks beautiful, and I have no problems enjoying a beautiful night themed boat ride.
I do a agree with you that is appears they went light on this.
With all of the plants that move in the movie, and all of the bizarre animals, I expected Disney would use this opportunity to do more.
