I have recently heard of the Pal Mickey. We are leaving for WDW on Memorial Day and am so excited to get my hands on one of these. Can anyone tell how much they are and if you enjoyed having one with you on your trip. I have a 2 year old and a 6 year old.:sohappy:

Hi first of all have a great trip, second I believe he is around 70 dollars. He can be found at the Disney Parks or the stores at each hotel. We have seen him pretty much everywhere. The special Happy Celebration one is dressed in a tuxedo and will only be available for a short time I believe. We haven't purchased one yet but my kids want one on our next trip this October. He isn't very big but he talks at different oarts of the park to let you know whats going on. I think this years model has a velcro lanyard to carry him around. Good luck

We got one at christmas vacation and he is a lot of fun. But it can be a BIG hassle keeping up with him. You can't leave him laying around or another Mickey lover will "mistake him for ours." He is a little heavy and you can't use the belt clip unless you want your pants to fall down. We took a pin lanyard and clipped him to this for our kids and worked okay. They carried him as a backpack or shoulder strap mostly. It can be a bit hard to hear him in noisy areas and you'll have to hold him close to your ears. Kids enjoyed the rambling about rides and helped with the trivia while in line. Now he sits on a shelf waiting for August 14th to arrive!

You can rent him for around $9.00 per day. You have the option to buy for $69.99 if you want to.:animwink:
Untrue!

You used to be able to rent him. The rental program stopped a couple years ago. The new Happiest Celebration on Earth edition Pal Mickey is $65.

Pal Mickey is a lot of fun. But he's not everyone's type of toy. He'll laugh and vibrate throughout the day as he passes triggers set around the four parks. He'll either comment on something you're near, or he'll tell you a joke, or he'll tell you about a parade start time, etc. The new version also features sing-a-longs and games. You can also buy clothes for him - four different outfits (Safari, Pin Trader, Poncho, Mickey Mouse Club) for $10 each.

I've had a Pal since 1.0 came out in April 2004, so I'm happy to try to answer any questions. Also check out PalMickey.net for a Pal Mickey grown-up's group!

My fammily loves traveling to WDW with Pal Mickey and he makes the time in lines pass quicker too!

We have had ours since they first came out and have even had him "reprogrammed" a couple times with the new information chip (or whatever it is they do to the little guy!)

My only problem when it was my turn to carry hiim is that there are spots in the parks when He will just not shut up! We have no problem with the belt clip and clip him to the backpack strap so he is easier to hear.

In my opionion, the kids will love it!

We brought a Pal Mickey on our last trip last year, and we didn't even have kids:lol: We had heard about them before we went and our first stop on arrival at WDW was to head straight to a shop to buy one!

The only place he became slightly anoying was at AK, he seemed to want to say something constantly. If you're wanting to get to Kilamangaro Safari quickly first thing, don't turn him on till after you've ridden, you'll never make it there before a queue builds up if you listen to everything he says. Other than that, he's excellent and lots of fun.

The only problem is, he gets to go more often than us, as we lend him to friends going to WDW!!

No such thing. There is no way for Pal to be updated with new phrases. Everything he can ever say is already hard-programmed into him. When I take my 1.0 Pal for example past Stitch, he comments about Alien Encounter.

But the HCOE edition Pal should be pretty current with all the newest rides for awhile.

We used a caribiner on our Pal Mickey, the belt clip would open and he fell once, the strap we never even used. The biner made him stay attached no matter where we went.

Our first time out to a park Mickey was talking about Epcot when we were at MK. We hit the pal Mickey shop, they changed the batteries and they reset him, the CM took him out on Main Street to make sure he was talking about MK now. We were set to go. When we went to the other parks he reset for that park without having to have a CM help.

Are you sure about this? Or does Pal Mickey feel the same way about SGE as most other people do?:D

I think they just resett him .. that he begins all over again with the the phrases :)

WOW!

If you want to call me a liar, then just come out and do it! :veryconfu

I'm telling you the Cast Members at the Main Street Cinema gave my old Pal Mickey new life. I was told to take Him there by some friends who did the same thing. He now works and is up to date on everything!

Or maybe it's just some good ole fashioned Main Street USA VOODOO they got going on in there!

Either way....I don't post just for the sake of posting, and certainly would not post bad info if I knew better....and my old Pal Mickey works just fine now.

Thanks to the CMs who got him all fired up again!

If he stopped talking or didn't know what park he was in, and they fixed him, that's fine. No problem. That's certainly what the CM's are there to help you with.

But the technology is physically incapable of him received new phrases. So if you want to get all uptight about this "liar" thing, then by all means, but I was just correcting the information given since either (a) you were mistaken on what they did or (b) you were confused on the technology of the device. As has already been mentioned, this comes up every time there's a Pal Mickey thread, but people still are under the false belief that he can do things he can't. (i.e. be "updated" with new phrases.) I'm simply trying to help prevent this incorrect information from continuing to be propigated.

It cannot be updated. It is technologically impossible to do based on how Pal Mickey was designed.

HOWEVER, it is possible to "unlock" new phrases. There were some that were in there for things not yet open, etc., that may work now.

But they did not "add" anything to it that wasn't there - it's impossible.
