Packing Food in Carry On

We have already placed an order through Garden Grocer and my husband does not feel safe letting me take a cab to Walmart. My question is, am I able to put a box of cereal and poptarts into our carry on and take it onto a Delta flight? Its essentially empty suitcase, but have a special needs child he wants to have his own carry on, and I thought that would be the perfect place to put them.

Why is he afraid to let you take a cab to Wal-mart in the middle of the day? It's not all that expensive and it's certainly not all that unsafe.

Absolutely!

We skip services like Garden Grocer altogether (we eat lunch and dinner in the parks, so we're only needing to bring breakfast items and snacks) and pack one of our children's carryons (clothing for both kids fits into a single 21" carryon, so we have an extra) with our foodstuffs for the week. As others said, you can't take any liquids or gels (except in tiny amounts, in your 3-1-1 bag), and obviously nothing perishable. We bring things like cereal, granola bars, dried fruit snacks, powdered dry coffee creamer, and fresh fruit (apples travel well, as do underripe bananas, if placed in a protective container), along with disposable picnicware. We buy some milk for the cereal at the resort shop after we arrive, and we're in business! If we're traveling at mealtime, I'll also pack our to-go lunches (e.g., Italian deli sandwiches, carrot sticks, frozen grapes) in my "personal item," which is a tote bag. We've never had an issue with taking any of those food items through security.

Then, when it's time to head home, we can use that extra carryon bag for souvenirs (or dirty laundry). :)
