Packing advise

We're going to WDW next July and I'm hoping someone can help me with some advise about what to pack. We want to pack as light as possible for a 2week stay, because we just know we'll be doing a lot of shopping! What are the absolute musts? Besides the obvious camera:animwink:

Lots of thanks:wave:

Very comfortable shoes. You will be doing lots of walking. Don't bring a pair because they are new or look nice. Bring a pair that is broken in and comfortable, or you will get blisters. You might get them regardless. Pack shorts, t-shirts etc., basically summer time clothing. Unless you are planning on some nice dinners or something along those lines pants and long sleeves are not required. Sunscreen is also a must. Even us native Floridians can burn in the summer. If you are from up north you will burn and make sure you drink lots of fluids. You might want to buy some bottled water and keep in your room if you plan on just hanging around the hotel, or for shopping. You can overheat and dehydrate quickly if you are not used to the humidity. A raincoat also. If you are here for two weeks, it will rain on you at some point. You will get some thunderstorms, but don't worry they tend to pass pretty quickly.

Beside the clothing, pack some of those Purex 3in1 laundry sheets. They don't weigh much and will be great, saving money on detergent at the laundry facilities at the resorts....and pack some dryer sheets as well even though the Purex supposedly has fabric softener in them. That Florida water is wicked! I always plan on doing laundry while I'm relaxing poolside. I only take about 4 days of clothing to save room in my luggage Pack plenty of barrettes, hair bands and sun visors as the heat will make that hair stick to your face. Ponchos, phone and camera chargers, camera manual in case you get a camera acting up, you can fix it. I always take a packet of those pre-moistened wipes, like baby wipes, to swipe away the sweat and keep my hands clean. Also some purell or germx stuff. Of course, your travel documents, confirmation numbers, etc. I always take a picture of those items, as well as a picture of my ticket, front and back, or room key, so if I lose them, I'll have it ready to produce digitally. Of course, if you lose your camera, someone else may have access to it. I have also photo copied my credit card so if you lose it, you'll have the information to call right away...safe in your room safe. I'd pack a couple pair of shoes and maybe switch off every couple of days. Dry wicking socks in the summer may be important...I've also heard of people using spray antiperspirant on their feet so they don't get blisters although I could only find spray deodorant. (Can you even travel with aerosol cans any more?) Back packs...I like to wear a small backpack around as well.

The basic clothes, comfortable shoes (2 pair is a good idea because you never know when yours will fall apart of get soaked) Enough clothes for half your stay is (imo) the better way to go, then you just do laundry half way through your stay. That'll help you save a lot of space. Suncreen, sunglasses, Wallet, etc. At least you have a lot of time to be making this list.:)

Like everyone else, comfortable shoes are a MUST. We don`t take long trousers at all, maybe a tracksuit top for eating inside as it can be cold with the air con. Disney hotels usually have a laundry so you may want to take your own soap powder. We have reusable water bottles so we can fill up when going round the parks. Also a "bum bag" is good as you can have your money and tickets in there and have hands free. Also shorts with zip pockets are handy for keeping stuff safe.We like to carry as little as possible when we are out and about!!

A few pairs of shorts and t-shirts, do some laundry half way through your trip and re wear those clothes. A great pair of sneakers is a must, maybe even 2

My family usually goes to WDW in June or August. We stay around nine days. Here is a comprehensive list:http://www.themouseforless.com/downloads/trip/UltimatePackingList/UltimatePackingList-.pdf.
My DH packs all of his items in a soft sided briefcase. I pack flipflops, walking shoes, shorts, tank tops, skirts/sundress (if needed for eating @ TS), pjs, swimsuits, cover up, underwear and socks. I wear the flipflops with the skirts. I take little to no makeup. I do take hair products and flat irons etc. This past year I did wash twice, while there. Less is more, just the minimum.

Make sure you have any medications you may need while on vacation. we try to leave enough room in our suitcases for souvenirs...also remember when buying a souvenir, ask yourself.....will this fit in my suitcase? we didnt do that back on our 1st trip in 2000 and my nephew bought 2 big dinosaurs from animal kingdom.......for 4 people, we ended up with 16 pieces of luggage! granted...it was before 9/11 happened and you could have more than 1 piece! nonetheless...it was a great trip....but little things you don't think about pop up from time to time..on our 2nd trip......AFTER 9/11...my nephew had bought one of the little pirates of the carribbean pistols....we did pack it, but they ended up searching it when they scanned the suitcase....once they saw what it was, it was cleared......no problems, just inconvenient.

Small (sandwich sized) plastic ziplock bags....

Its the single greatest thing we ever started taking to WDW years ago and never leave the home without them now -

You can put in your phone/wallet if you ride water rides....if it rains, everything from your pockets can go into them during the day....if your kids want to keep something from their dinner as a snack later, you just pop it into a baggie and off you go...

But mostly, to keep things dry in your pockets - don't leave home without them.

Lots of great adwise so far! Coming from Norway the weather is very different from Florida in the summer:animwink:
We've done lots of trips to dlrp and I've had some bad shoe experienses, so I've been on the lookout for the perfet shoes for a while...
We'll be staying on site so we've been thinking about taking advantage of the laundry service. We'll be going for 2 weeks with a 10 day admition ticket, so there should be time for laundry:animwink:
I'll be taking the advise of only bringing one long sleeved item.
I always tend to bring a little bit extra when going somewhere new, with a different climate, so I'm very thankful for the adwise:)

Just know it will be very hot and muggy. Most likely a thunderstorm every afternoon but won't last but a few minutes. I live in South Florida our weather is about the same as Orlando. Just be prepared and you will have a great time. There is a coin operated laundry for $2.00 a wash and $2.00 to dry. Soap runs around $1.00 and dryer sheets too if you buy them there.

One of the nice things is that the laundry rooms are typically near a pool, so doing a load or two of laundry can be combined with a afternoon at the pool. At times I use large zip-lock bags to put cloths in, then you can get the air out leaving more room. It will not save weight, only space in a suitecase.
Have a great trip, glad to have you visiting all the way from Norway!

Thanks! :)

We always get rain on our trips to DLRP, sometimes lasting for hours and our last couple of summers here have been all rain, so a few min of thunder shouldn't ruin our magic:animwink: I love rain ponchos so I can cover up both myself and whatever bag I have with me:sohappy:

I use those vacume bags at home for saving space, but the once i have are a bit big for travel use and I've never thought of large sip-lock bags for that. Good idea! I always bring sip-lock bags for laundry on the way home if there isn't any opertunity for washing clothes.. If I could get some of my dresses with "fuller" skirts in those it would save sooo much space.

Well, due to really high priced plane tickets in July we've had to change our trip to teh first 2 weeks of oct. How is the weather and what would be the best clothes to pack for that time? From what I have read online it's like a nice warm summer here in Norway, but still it's way further south and a different climat all togheter, so I don't know if there is need for long sleeves in the evening and mornings and so on;-)

And also, does anyone know when and how to get tickets for Mickey's not so scary halloween party?
