package v. room only

I have a room only reservation for the last week in 9/2004 at the WL. With my AAA discount for six nights my total was $1340. If I buy the Ultimate park hopper in advance, online for 6 nights for 2 adults and 1 child, that is about $910. So I get a total of $2250. When I compared the dream maker package it totalled $3581. Looks like a total no-brainer, right? I know there will be a discount offered at some point in time for the time of my stay, but I find it unlikely that it will rival the amount that I pay without the package. Am I missing something?

No, you are not missing something. We always book our room and get our park tickets seperately and normaly save a few hundred dollars. With the package you get some extras (i.e. round of mini golf, or use of the sports complex). If you are not going to use them, why pay for them.

I agree

I completely agree. The packages are really useless, especially to a non Disney newby.

the Packages throw in so many things that sound so wonderful, but the issue is this.............once you get to WDW and start having fun, you may not really have time or want to do some of those things you paid for, yet, you feel pressure to now do them because you paid for them.

when buying a package, really take into account the issue of so many other things to do and will you really have time to want to do the stuff in the package.

You also may want to consider a 5 day hopper plus pass verses the ultimate. You'll be able to save alot more money. The 5 day hopper plus will give you 5 days at the theme parks plus two bonus days for waterparks, PI, disneyquest. A 5 day hopper plus for an adult purchased in advance will be about $220.

Y'all are so right! I had not even checked the prices on the park hopper plus tickets! I can even get 6 day tickets for all three of us and save another $200.

Frankly, i like the packages. I like the ease of just having to pay once and get it all out of the way, with every littloe thing taken care of.

Unfortunetly, i dont have the money to do that on a regular basis, so doing ala carte got me a trip for.... under $800. Room only deals (as well as other discounts) are great for that last minute, shoestring, get-me-out-of-this-cold-weather trips but all in all I'd rather get the treatment a package allows.

I think it depends on what you have planned while you're there. I've actually used both methods in the past. If you plan on just going to the 4 major parks, then the separate pass is the way to go. If you think you might want to visit Pleasure Island, or the water parks a few times while there, then the Dream Maker package through Disney is better.

We always seem to get the best deal by booking seperate. Although we are major park visitors and don't do alot besides that. We did use the minigolf tickets we had on our last trip.

But this year we decided to upgrade to an AP, and then plan next years trip before it expires.

In addition, the PHP tickets never expire whereas the Ultimate ends the last day of your stay. So, if for any reason you don't get to a park on one of the days, your pass will cover one day on your next trip whether it's in a week or ten years. The fact that ticket prices increase periodically may make this an even bigger value.
