Funny, what you call "inescapable", I call more accessible! :ROFLOL:

Face it, nightly parties would be inescapable, every fourth to eighth night is readily avoidable by choosing other parks on the specified dates... Methinks thou doth protest too much!

Methinks me see people being tricked into think they're getting more but just being charged twice for park entry.

While I do tend to agree somewhat... just head over to Epcot on those nights... thats what I do, if I am not attending said event. :animwink:

These parties are starting to get ridiculous, but as long as they keep bringing in that extra revenue they'll be there.

Not really inescapable...don't pay and don't go.

Honestly, if all you are going to is complain then why bother posting at all?
If everything is not up to your standards then why do you continue to spend your money and visit the parks? :veryconfu

I think that for some of us, what is disturbing (for lack of a better word) about these parties is that:

-(As merf stated) guests are paying twice to visit one park in the same day! And, just to show how much these hard-ticket events have gone up in price in only the last 2 years, I paid $26.95 for my AP ticket to MNSSHP in 2005. This year, they were more than $50 a piece with tax (can't remember the exact amount) when I went to guest relations (with tax, no AP this year :(. That is completely outrageous for a 5-hour "party." And what extras do they offer in 2007 that they did not in 2005 (to justify an increase of nearly 100%)? Er...um....I can't think of anything. Oh wait, they no longer offer the free picture. Yeah, they actually took something away and are charging more.

-At least for MVMCP, the special shows and Xmas parade used to be accessible to every guest in the olden days, as MK was open until the same time every night.

Now, that being said, I will likely continue to visit these events (and I look forward to hopefully checking out P&P in August); however, it is disappointing that WDW continues to raise prices for hard ticket events and cut regular hours for the average guest.

I'm not what some might call a "complainer" on these boards; however, I definitely agree with merf about these hard ticket events. Why not offer the special parade and shows to the average guest (some of whom are paying $100 for a single-day park ticket?). I understand many people may disagree, but I just wanted to voice my opinion on this one.

Either you're lying or you came across an "unofficial" Guest Relations person who was really a scalper. The "gate price" for tickets was something like $50 this year.

Er, not lying (um, a little awkward...never had that suggested before), but I know there were different tiered dates, which may explain the difference. Regardless, I paid $26.95 in October 2005 and the price at guest relations on Friday, October 12, 2007 was quoted to me as approximately $90 per ticket.

Oh, and even the $50 is a decent price hike in two years' time including the cutbacks in what is included in the ticket (i.e. free picture).

I agree that the rise in price is unfortunate, but at no point did Disney ever offer a MVMCP ticket for $90. The different dates only matter as far as advance purchase, DVC/Annual, and CM discounts the $50 was the flat price for all days when purchasing same day as the party.

I've never been to any of these so I really don't know what goes on...
200% increase? I know prices have gone up, but that is a ton.
I was just saying that there is a way around them, don't pay to go. Spend some time in another park, the resort, etc. Its not like anybody is forced to go (unless you have a little kid who runs the show :lookaroun ).

I must say that someone must have scammed you because I went to the PPP, MNSSH, and MVMCP and paid somewhere between $40 and $47 (not including tax; depending on the night). The Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party was $47 and that's the most I've paid for an event.

I bring my friends over to the parks since none of them have passes. We everything done that we want (with most things being done more than once) halfway through the event. For an AP, it may not seem like a big deal but for a regular guest, the ability to get nearly everything in the park done in 1/3 of the time of a full day visit, saving just under $30, plus seeing an awesome fireworks show justifies it for them. I just do the planning for them since I'm the theme park geek of my group of friends. We will be doing our 5th party (since 2007) this February, and now that April and May have opened up, I'm going to start planning a 6th...

Guys, I'm sorry for the confusion. I couldn't understand how my memory could be so far off, and I knew the girl at guest relations wasn't trying to scam me. I went with my mom (plus my aunt and grandma) on the trip, so I called her to ask her if she remembered asking about the tickets on our last night (which was Friday the 12th).

I am so embarrassed, but I remembered the quote being something like $170 or $180. I forgot that we were asking about three tickets (for my aunt too). I'm really sorry to have caused a stir, please know that wasn't my intent. I'm going to change my original post as to not mislead any more readers.

Sorry, guys...I'm so embarrassed

You know, if a guest sits down to plan their vacation for 7 days, knows about this party in advance, and then purchases a 7 day ticket and the additional hard ticket event, then I really don't have any sympathy.

In fact, just to be a little more hard nosed, anyone that does not research a Disney vacation ahead of time to take these types of things into account I have no sympathy for.

There are enough resources out there for folks who are planning their vacation that no one should be taken in by this, but should use their critical thinking skills to either work around it or incorporate it into their vacation.

While I can understand the complaining, with the parties spaced out like this, anyone who performs a little due diligence should have no problem.

Plan your vacation so only one hard ticket party occurs during it (not too hard with the current P&P schedule). Chances are, you won't go to the parks every day of your vacation. So take the day that you go to the hard ticket event to go to a water park.

Example: we bought a 10 day no expiration plus water park fun and more ticket prior to our August trip from Undercover tourist. We used three days in August, plus 2 of the "and more" options (one for PI the first night, one for Typhoon Lagoon). The day we went of the P&P party, we went to TL until 2 p.m., went back to the resort, changed, and went to MK at 4 p.m. (the time they allow you to enter for hard ticket events) and stayed until 12 p.m. We paid something like $40 for the P&P ticket with an advance purchase discount.

At Christmas, we did the exact same thing for MVMCP. It isn't that difficult to plan around these parties and maximize the bang for your buck, if you just try.

Frankly, I have no problem with Disney making "double" money off people who choose to go to the park that day. Disney has profit expectations, so they'll find a way to make that money somehow, I'd rather it only affect those who inadequately prepare and thus, bring it upon themselves.
