P 90X

Good job! I can understand your concern about cost it does seem like a lot at one time. But I look at it as an investment in my health and happiness long term. We use the programs almost daily and for years now so when you break it down by cost per use and results gained its a huge bargain in my opinion. The beachbody programs have been great for us but all that matters is that you find what works for you, that you enjoy and will stick to. Good job and good luck! :D
This is something I'm curious about...do you keep doing the P90X cycles over and over or just do whichever one you feel like doing on a given day (since I know you guys have quite the collection between the two of you)? :D

I guess I'm not clear on what they advise people to do once the initial round of P90X is completed, because I assume the only way to keep the results is to do another round. ??

The routines are targeted - legs, abs, shoulders and back, arms and chest, etc.

You can keep doing them at a level that makes you comfortable, or you can make them harder. You can add more weight, or more reps for bodyweight exercizes. After you have done the cycle twice, you really don't even need the DVD's. You have watched them so much, you start speaking along with them. "look at me while I am looking at you" "I recommend foot spray" "lucky lucky man" and other little things he says. You can just do the exercizes from memory.

I keep doing them in various combinations, usually some type of hybrid. I'll usually use P90X for strength and core and use either turbo fire or insanity for cardio. I try to switch things up every few months but it always involves some beachbody product. The format and schedules of their programs just really click for me.

Gotcha. I like that you can sort of "adjust" it to fit your needs.

So tell me, how did you fit it in with marathon training? 2-a-days with both running and P90X? That's something else that is tripping me up...I want to keep running at least 3 days per week, but I'm also curious about checking out P90X because I've heard a lot of great things about it. BUT I also don't want to spend 2-3 hours per day working out...o_O

I thought about looking into Power 90 first but I've heard that it's for people that are "total couch potatoes," which I am not. I've taken a couple of months off of strength training though and I'm sure I couldn't complete a full P90X workout just yet...

Aa typical week (this is training block 1 - Adaptive phase, there are 3 blocks of 2 phases) is

Day 1 Chest & Back + Ab Ripper X
Day 2 Plyometrics
Day 3 Shoulders & Arms + Ab Ripper X
Day 4 Yoga X
Day 5 Legs & Back + Ab Ripper X
Day 6 Kenpo X
Day 7 Rest or X Stretch

At the time I was running 3 shorts and a single long run.(I was also taking Tae Kwon Do one a week)

I basicly cut out Plyo, Yoga, and Kenpo while that was going on and on Day 7 I didn't do anything.

I would do my shortest run (4-5 miles) on the day I did either Chest and Back or Shoulders and Arms and I made sure not to do the legs module the day before or after my long run.

I did throw Kenpo in the mix every so often because honestly I HATED the Chest and Back, push-ups and pull-ups galore. Ugh. So I would do kenpo, which was good for TKD. I tended not to do much of the Plyo because I was in a second floor apartment at the time, and I am 6' 4" and had 8' ceilings. Me jumping around on the second floor was not pretty. I though I was going to crack the walls or my head.

Thanks Dave.

I was thinking of doing something similar...definitely keeping days 1, 3 and 5 the way they are. I think I'd probably want to keep the yoga too, but I have heard that DVD is 1.5 hours or something. Hmm...I am pretty sure I will hate Days 1 and 3 at firstjust because I am pretty much doing zero in those areas now...but that is exactly why I am interested in doing a schedule like this.

So I remembered my brother has a set of the DVDs and he said I could borrow them - but that involves him mailing them up from Florida, so if he actually keeps his word and does that I'll get to try P90X for free! :D He said he was "embarrassed" to do some of the program...I didn't know what he meant, and he was talking about the plyo in his apartment too. He's not quite 6'4" but I guess he felt silly jumping around. :D

The yoga disc is a mixture of moving asanas (strength), balance, floor work, and then core/ab concentrations. It is sort of broken down into four distinct sections, especially the strength section - in fact he says something like "that is the end of the moving asanas" or something like that. So if you wanted to shorten it eliminate a section, you could. It is a long disc, but I happen to like that one.

I would not call the plyo embrassing, but it does require a bit of space and a solid floor. If you are in a typical living room, you may have to push the couch back for plyo.

I did a circuit of P90X but I really don't need to be doing much cardio. I lift at the gym daily and just use Ab Ripper X and X Stretch. I like to use Kenpo X to burn energy when I feel I have extra.

I have done P90x but switched to Insanity. I don't like doing either, but Insanity I see better results. :p

Try TapouT. It's not Beachbody and not edited as well, but it's a great workout. It helped me sculpt the best legs I've ever had and it's a good mix of cardio and strength where Insanity is mostly cardio and P90X is almost too much strength for my tastes. I didn't think I'd like using the bands, but their not bad.

Actually I'm mixing a bit of Jillian Michaels Leslie Sansone 5 miles Kendall Hogan yoga zumba and a few others just couldn't justify the cost! I'm also walking 2-3 mi per day outside when I can but it's been fridgid! Thnx for asking!

I think that is good...unless you're looking for something to switch up

I stay with the cycles, and just keep repeating. I tend to do P90X, then P90X2, then back to P90X and so on. This time though I have broken the pattern and gone to Insanity. As you have read above though, a lot of people like to completely mix it up.

Mixing up your routine is the way to go, don't want your body to get too accustomed to anything
