Overtourism killing spontaneous vacations

When my wife and I first got married in the 80s we would take random spur of the moment trips. We would pool our cash we were to spend and put in the car console, then we would take off driving. No plans, just whatever felt good at the moment. we would travel for next few days until we spent half the cash we had put in the console. At this point we would start heading back home. We were never sure where we were going to end up or spend the night. Best memory is setting at a little winery watching the sun go down over a great lake with my wife.
